Aug. 9th, 2001 12:49 amI've been nothing but constructive today.
I woke up late, took my shower, and eventually made my way over to school to buy my book. This was not a happy errand, as my mom used to work at this bookstore and had been putting a lot of pressure on me to NOT talk to her former colleagues about her. Since they are known to ask questions, her coaching made things... difficult. She kept following me around the house while I was getting ready. "And if they ask how I am, what are you going to say?" "You're under the weather." "No! Tell them I'm fine and they can email me!" "How else do you expect me to explain why you aren't with me?" "Tell them I'm doing errands at home!" "They'll wonder why you picked today." etc.
As it happened, when I was in the store, everyone I knew who worked there was busy and took no peripheral notice of me because my haircolor has changed since I last saw them. It was a relief to not have to play the game I was being asked to play. I did get my book, which is better than the old Figure book. This one has anatomical charts, well-chosen illustrations, a glossary, and seems to be generally well-written and readable. It's Drawing from Life by Brown and McLean. Our old one was by Lu Bro and it went out of print for this past semester.
After the bookstore, I came home and dug in to the necessary housework. The original plan with the existing sofas was that my mother was going to clear an area in her bedroom and then we were going to move the loveseat in there. Well, I spent much time getting the loveseat ready to move, dubious about its ability to go around corners. Sure enough, it couldn't make it through the first set of doors (which are at a 90deg angle) and ended up being too long to prop on one end. So the move was a no-go. A tiring one.
We moved the loveseat back where it started, sat down and brainstormed for a while. Getting it out to the curb for Saturday morning garage sale time didn't seem likely... the same logistical headaches, and us being only two small women. Then I came up with the clever idea of having Goodwill come and pick up the current sofas ASAP. Negating any need for us to lift them again. If they can't come on time, there are other charity thrift places that can come get the sofas. Woot.
That's been my day. My back hurts a little from all the sofa-pushing, and I have a ton of things to do over the next two days, but all in all I think we will be ready for Saturday's delivery.
