I'm in NYC now... well, more properly in Morris Park in the Bronx. Autumn's little house reminds me of a much nicer version of where my dad used to live when I was a kid. It is messy, but she was freaked about my reaction and she needn't be. It's mostly surface mess and toddler-mess (sticky fingers and a tendency to leave food lying around). If they make a system and stick to it, they'll be fine. & I'm such a slob that I tend to see the "clean parts" more than the "messy parts" anyway.
They have really gone out of the way to make me comfy... I'm staying in the baby's room, which is clean, and have a bed and a space-heater and a stereo if I want to use it, as well as a drawer and a closet. Everyone is very nice. M is cool and laconic and even S, Autumn's "problem cousin" who has been living here, is friendly and pretty cool. The new puppy, who I was worried about because my own experience with "new puppies" has not been great, is so wonderful. she looks like a little fox, is cute and fuzzy and friendly, and likes to come up on people's laps for naptime. So everyone here is pretty lovely.
The first night I was here I settled in, then A & M took me to dinner at a local Italian place, where I got a Chicken Marsala that was pretty good. We hung out there for a while. Came home and chatted and watched some Sailor Moon SailorStars and Utena, then went to sleep.
Yesterday we went down to Morris Park Ave. and did some shopping and had coffee at a local cafe. Came home, and got ready to go to the city, but we got a late start. When the bus dropped us off, we had a long walk in the wind to get down to the Village. Went to Ricky's (where I got chocobar soap, Dirty Girl showergel, Artec shampoo and conditioner), Religious Sex, Metropolis, a few other places, but got there too late to go to Trash (I am boot-shopping, & wanted to stop there before making the final purchase, prolly at Fluevog). Had dinner at Cafe Orlin, went to St Mark's Comics (where I got Action Girl, Electric Girl, and Transmet). Got a neato black angora hat at the SockMan. After that it was getting late and we pretty much went home. Stayed up very late watching the very end of Sailor Moon, the battle against Galaxia, which I'd never seen (I like the manga ending better). Then A and S and I stayed up talking about our misspent youths. Too late, we went to bed around 6AM.
Woke up very late today and finally showered. I'd had strange dreams about former friends and so on. One thing I notice here is that I feel less into wearing makeup, and I feel skinnier than I do in FL. Much lower-key. All the clothes I brought are OK, but I'm kinda chilled... should have brought more longsleeve shirts. Tonight we're going to clean and get ready for the baby's party and go out and pick up some food and snacks and such, and watch Blade Runner because S & I have never seen it. Very low-key & fun. It's good to be able to spend time with one of my best friends, who I don't see enough!
So, I'm having a good time and none of the possible badness that can be associated with such a trip has happened. This is a nice li'l vacation. (I got mail from my mom today reminding me that I am on vacation, hehe). I don't feel like being online as much as I have been at home, but I do plan to try to write in my LJ every day or two. Can't wait to see Ragdoll and do more City Stuff. But just now, I'm going to get more orange spice tea.
