Mar. 26th, 2001 12:58 pmYesterday was Autumn's daughter's bday party... it was REALLY CRAZY and a lot of things were last-minute. We had cleaned Sat night and then spent Sunday on setup. There was some drama (groceries arriving late, etc) but because ppl were late showing up we were able to get everything in order.
I met pretty much everyone - Autumn's mom and sis and (ex-)stepdad and his wife and A's friend C and her man J (who were really cool, as was A's sis) and so on and on. It was craziness... when I used to run bday parties for little kids I hated doing things for 3 yrs and under because the kids couldn't be herded into activities and the adults always thought it was a party for them. This is kind of what it was like here, but since it was in a house it wasn't like when I was going crazy because 30 adults had overrun my party center making it impossible for me to run a party for the ten kids who were there. So it was chaotic but reasonably fun. We still haven't finished cleaning up.
After that we hung out all evening... I babysat a bit during The Sopranos because it freaks out the Girl... and generally just chatted. S-the-cousin apparently has really resented me being here, but she's been really nice and not showed it, for the most part. She also seems to be in a much better mood since the party. She's been packing like crazy and giving things to me and A - so far, to me, a pair of almost-new Docs, a nice shirt from jcrew, and Janson's History of Art. She's stoked about New Orleans & still fun to talk to.
Anyway, I stayed up late talking to E (the sort of lurking avuncular presence of the place) after my shower, and went to bed late, and when I woke up it was snowing. I have a bit of a cough/sinus thing going on but I'm basically OK. A is getting ready and we are going schlepping, mostly to get groceries and such. Works for me. I need to get ready to go.
