Went to the zoo today with CJ & niecelet. Saw many cute animals (baby elephant!), but it was a Halloween event, and the animals seemed kind of ticked off at the crowds. The lorikeets, which live in an aviary and will normally land on people to drink cups of nectar, were standoffish and, frankly, full. You expected to hear a bunch of tiny birdie belches. As it was there was lots of trilling and cooing, but far from being friendly, it seemed to mean stuff more along the lines of, "I hate you all so very much," and "Back off or I'll cut you, bitch."

We were there all afternoon; it got progressively chillier as the day went on, until CJ & I (who had left our jackets in the car) were freezing. By the time we left at 6, I had had enough of the weather. Now I am having some sinus drainage and not feeling so well; hoping I won't get sick from it. Most people wouldn't, but I'm susceptible to "catching a chill," and I haven't felt well all evening.

After I got home, I hung out with my mom; we watched The Wicker Man, which neither of us had seen before. She described it as "a pornographic musical." I pointed out that everyone tends to be fully clothed in the one or two sex scenes. But they are naked much of the rest of the time, and they do sing a lot. Far from finding it full of menace, I knew where it was going, and kind of found it funny... it lends itself to parody and lots of morbid jokes.

Tom had a good time at the SNAP show in Detroit and sold lots of books. Big conversation of the day: Phoebe Gloeckner, who bought some of his books, had bus trouble, and doesn't know who Dave Sim is.
