Hi to my new friend Jet! :)

I'm tired, but a nap for about 45 minutes around 5PM carried me through the evening, and a short walk (about half the usual distance because I was tired) at 10PM has kept me awake til now... however, I'm on my way to bed. We're supposedly going to see Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon tomorrow - but I've been saying that for weeks, haven't I? Maybe we'll go and maybe we won't.

All I really did this evening was a little bit of homework, a lot of laying around trying to stay awake, and some eating of foodstuffs. We got food from the fab Hawaiian-Mexican place, and had icecream for dessert. Watched Buffy and Angel. I taped the rest of the dog show to watch some other time. I'm still hacking up stuff from the nasty cold thing I had a few weeks back, which is fun (in the same way that zits and backaches are fun, which is to say, not at all).

I looked at the AKC page today and went over my persuasive arguments... most of the breeds I'm interested in would be good for our lifestyle and fit into our home well, but most of the breeds my mom is interested in have problems. She was resistant to the Boston Terrier until I told her it's "like a miniature Boxer" (sneaky me) - she had a boxer she adored as a child. She was resistant to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel until I showed her the ACK breed standards page and had her read about the temperament.

Really, I'd be happy with either... or a Sheltie, which is one of the dogs she's considering. Since it's mostly to be her dog, and a replacement for our old dog who died about 4 years ago and who was the sweetest, most charming and merry companion you can imagine, I don't want to force her into getting a dog she doesn't like. My dear unquietmind has assisted me with some Boston Terrier propaganda, such as the following photo (could you resist this face?)

Now I'm reading up on health information (I've found what looks to be an excellent breeder just a few hours away, someone who is very committed to working on genetics so that the dogs come out healthy and friendly), and am going to do something similar with the CKC Spaniel either later or tomorrow. It'll be a while before we can get the actual doggie, but this is a start! Yaaaaay!

nice dog.

hey, just wanted to say hello...

that dog is sweet! i have an 8 month old puppy, a jack russell terrier. he's super intelligent and SUPER hyper. its like having a 2 year old running through the house on four legs. on top of that, he hardly ever sleeps. so its been quite the...uh, experience. but he's exceptionally bright, i housebroke him in virtually one day. now he rings a bell i have hanging on the door when he needs to go out! heh.

there is this chick down the street that has a really lovely muscular boxer and a teensy little chihuahua. its really funny to see her out walking them together. nice contrast...

anyway, hi.

PS... what is it with parents and those damned cocker spaniels? my dad is dying for one! i'm definitely opposed to it, but ultimately its his dog that he's going to have to deal with. hopefully he will get something a little more interesting/healthy/sane/intelligent.

hee hee... oh god, my friend has a Jack Russell named Ringo. and I love them and think they're adorable and wanted one for a long time, but I don't think I have what it takes to handle one. B. is constantly up at 4AM letting Ringo outside... and everytime I talk to him on the phone, there are at least a few pauses in conversation as he says "Ringo? Ringo! Put that down! Down! You want out? Out? OK, outside!" or something like that. But the dogs are so damn lovable that it's hard to fault them! :)

yep, thats basically how my life is now. constantly interrupted by the dog, heh. he is sweet, non-destructive, and very smart. i just wish he would go to sleep or something. i think he secretly smokes crack while i'm gone.

I think that is such a cute doggie even though I'm personally partial to any sort of retriever or any sort of wolfie working dogs (huskie, malmute, samoyed) over terriers n stuff. I just loathe spaniels -- between my BGB's two terrors and shrub's King Charles Spot (not to mention Mommy Millie), they're just spoiled for me.

Bostons are fabulous

I must voice my vote for a Boston Terrier. And this coming from a person who has never owned any dogs other than Heinz 57 varieties! My parents inherited my aunt's Boston after she died, and I confess that she is the smartest (and maybe cutest) dog that I have ever met. My mother has taught her an amazingly large vocabulary in the short time they have had her. She even knows her individual toys by name (her tennis ball from her wiggly-giggly ball, etc.) She gets along famously with cats and other dogs as well-- just an all-around good-natured pup. The only drawback I'm aware of is that they (according to the vet) have the second highest rates of cancer after Boxers. But I think all breeds have some sort of possible health problem-- it's inevitable.

Anyhoo, sorry to ramble. I've read your journal for quite a bit now and hope you don't minid if I add you to my friends list. Take care!

We've had a few Shelties in my family, and my cousin has one. They're sweethearts, really. I'd cast my vote for Sheltie, honestly.
