I gave in and made an "emergency" call to the chiropractor, so I can come in sometime tomorrow. I haven't been there since mid-October.

Sciatica makes you very aware of the curves and structures of your body, at least the curve of the hip and buttock and thigh, so this is an interesting thing to happen while I'm studying anatomy. I can "feel" the contour of those areas without physically touching them with other parts of my body. The pain is so strange... it's momentarily excruciating, but only in flashes, and maybe because it's a surprise. The arnica gel helped somewhat but not enough.

I spent some time earlier trying to decide how I will invest. I think I'm going to go for putting some in a money market fund, some in a S&P 500 Index account, and when those make some money, start a Roth IRA. This is the gist of the investment section in Beth Kobliner's Get A Financial Life. I've also skimmed through a book called Girls Just Want to Have Funds, which I haven't purchased because it isn't as clearly-written as Get A Financial Life. I'll decide whether or not I need it some other time.

However, I'm also a bit worried that having investments will mess up my financial aid for school, and I don't trust my mom enough to put them in her name. She can be notorious about things like that... when I was younger, she swore she was putting all the child support money my dad sent into an account for me, but it turns out that she was docking the account all the time, sending money to televangelists and stuff, I don't even know what all. & she's been known to do things like... last year, she bought me a robe that I found on clearance at Lane Bryant, but I'm a little smaller than Lane Bryant sizes and wasn't sure it would fit. It was the only one left. She said "I'll take it if it doesn't fit!" - and then decided to keep it for herself without ever letting me try it on, claiming she "needs a warm robe" despite the fact that she has a $300 velvet robe in her closet that she's never worn, as well as a terry bathrobe.

Although she's not always anywhere near that bad, I don't know if I trust her not to go back on her word with my investments, if they make any money. So I need to read up and find out which way would be preferable. Right now, having the FinAid is more important than having the cash.

Autumnthought is having a rough week, so keep your fingers crossed for her and her family. She really needs it.

Time for sleep!
