head fun

So, tonight Boyfriend is at a sold-out White Stripes show, and I am not! (and no, I don't particularly care whether you like them or not: I would have gone if I'd had the chance, even though I think most of their songs sound very much alike.) How did this come about? Deep misfortune for friend's wife who was supposed to go to the show. I feel sorrier for Lisa not being able to go (broken foot) than I do for me not having a ticket, too; totally don't blame her husband for keeping his own ticket when he passed hers on to Tom. :)

Anyway, we're going to see either Rasputina (my preference) or the Dresden Dolls in a few weeks. Which means: the revenge of banana curls! Or something like that.

Tonight my mom cut my hair. Two inches or so, and it needed to go. Actually more needed to go, but neither of us could bear to do it. I am jealous of [livejournal.com profile] nadja's new "hime" ("princess") cut, which is sort of like a bob in front but long in the back; thought about doing it, but my hair is too fine & flyaway to support it.

Serious lack of glamour in my life, and especially on my head, has had me grey lately. A few weeks ago I read an entry in a hairdresser friend's LJ where she talked about an annoying client who got a very common cut (as long as possible in back, angled in front to create shorter, face-framing strands) & was very particular about it. Oh, lordy, that's my haircut and I'm probably that girl. I need to buy L.-who-does-my-hair-when-I-have-money a nice present for putting up with me. & I need to make myself a set of clip-in bangs; I have the supplies. More fun on my head please.

Tonight I... have a fun-filled evening of serious housework ahead of me. Lately I've been assembling flat-pack furniture that's been sitting in its boxes for years, because I can no longer stand how little dresser space I have. I put it off partly because the boxed components sat in my garage in Florida; anyone who has been to Florida will have some idea of how frightening quasi-neglected Florida garages can be. The major reason this stuff wasn't assembled 18 months ago is totally that I was scared to crack open the boxes and see what might be living-or-dead inside them, so I've constantly been trying (and failing!) to enlist people to help. My mom said she would. Then she changed her mind, because she's as wussy about palmetto bugs and wolf spiders as I am. Tom has been willing in theory, but we've both been avoidant in practice.

So of course, when we set to it the other day, we opened the box and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it in any way. Now I just have to make space for two stacked units in my room, which is - wait for it - very cluttered from the lack of storage space. (like a circle with big sharp pointy teefs!)

& I'm most of the way through [livejournal.com profile] blackholly's book Valiant, which is really pretty good.

Apparently Jack & the others tried to go to a local club after the show Saturday night, but it was just past 2 and they were closing. About two minutes after turning him away, the doorman realized who it was (they would have stayed open because they're fans). The Stripes people were nice about it though, mostly just disappointed they couldn't come in. I don't know where they ended up.

Tomorrow night a lower-profile-but-still-famous indie/emo band is playing a secret show to test new material! I think we're going.
