- Well, it seems like New Orleans is still there. Ish. Whew. There is a lot of damage, but it isn't flattened like the NWS said it could be. It will be awful there for a while, though, if what I remember of living in Florida after Hurricane Andrew is any indication (and I didn't even live in an area that was hit - but we were in the path for a while, almost evacuated, and you do sometimes remember bullets you've dodged).

- We are actually going to be hit with the remnants of the hurricane tomorrow, and Columbus might flood! It'll be a weak tropical storm by then or slightly weaker than that, but we tend to have high water levels because of all the rivers around here. I took down the porch umbrella so it wouldn't blow away again, so the (glass) table wouldn't get knocked over, etc.

- I was at the library tonight, parked by a lamppost, and it got dark while I was inside. I came out to find my car COVERED with flies, dozens, maybe hundreds, and also on the ground and in the air. I couldn't get in the car without letting some in, and then there were a few that I couldn't completely get off of me or the car. I'm ashamed to admit I was a little bit panicked, mildly terrified. Most of the flies looked like houseflies, but were smaller, maybe half the size.

- I have been meaning to write this down for weeks, but keep forgetting to. I read a couple of litblogs - not all of them, but enough, and they tend to link to anything interesting in the ones I don't read, anyway. It's been amusing and irritating in the last few months to watch them tripping over themselves to claim that they do not, in fact, read Harry Potter books, nor can they countenance anyone over the age of 12 doing so. There's no point in writing to say, look, I've read all the Potter books, you can't base your opinion of the series on the first two as they are relatively childish in comparison with more recent books, and furthermore, I think the fact that I've read most of the books you slavishly fawn over readmits me to the "grown-up-readers" club. Too defensive! And that's it - my response is partly defensive, partly... well, like I said, they're tripping over themselves to make these claims, lest anyone think they're immature enough to like the Pot.

- Someone, of course, got all on my case over my BPAL-ambivalence (see last post) on someone else's LJ - and I didn't even say anything particularly negative, nor would I. I just said that I couldn't really afford to get into it, especially not to get obsessed with it in the way that many people are, and I thought the website design made it a little difficult to figure out where to start. I remain surprised that a mail-order perfume company has been so successful by word-of-mouth, especially among some people who I know online who are not normally into buying a lot of things. At any rate: lame internet drama, especially the completely pointless & overpersonalized kind, sucks.
