Still awake.
I have been sitting here looking at dog breeds and photos for a while. Mom made me peppermint tea for my nasty crampy gassy tmi-bearing stomach. (and then, even more TMI, promptly started the second period she's had in the last year, and said, "Well, gee, thanks for the power of your hormones.")
My grandparents finally admitted that they are becoming too frail to take care of themselves and that they need to sell their house and move somewhere smaller and more manageable. My grandfather has Parkinsons and my grandmother has circulation and thyroid problems (though her doctor has told her that if she quit smoking, drank less coffee, and ate more/more-properly she'd be fine... all she eats is marmalade toast). Apparently she doesn't want to move.
I guess there is going to be a big "family meeting" to discuss the legalities of it all. They've lived in that house for 40 years and it's a wreck, but there used to be a well-tended garden and a fireplace pit in the backyard, and hummingbirds... the year I moved to Florida my grandfather planted two trees on the tree lawn and named one for me and one for my mom, and they're still there, and large now.
This is making me sulky, but it's for the better. They certainly will not make a lot of money from their house; I can't see them getting over $50K for it, and probably a lot less. What a nice 75th birthday present for my grandmother. Feh.
