small pond, frozen over!

Very tired and not going to write much.
Went to see Big Fish tonight with Tom; had a good time. I liked the movie for the most part - a few small flaws, but not sure how they could have been fixed. The main thing is that Ewan McGregor is way too old to be believable as an 18-yr-old, and is also not believable as a 22-yr-old, especially when his similar-age love interest is played by an actress (Alison Lohman) who actually is in that age group. But I can't think of better actors for the parts they played, and Alison Lohman certainly does age in a bee line to Jessica Lange, so it's a small complaint. One neat thing about the movie is that you will see some visual references to some of Tim Burton's other movies - mostly the original ones, rather than the Batman and Ape movies. There's a car mishap vaguely reminiscent of Beetlejuice's fatal accident, a tie that almost looks like Jack Skellington standing on a curlicued hill (the famous silhouette), a shot of sheep rustling about in a paddock that almost looks like it could have been stock footage left over from similar shots in Sleepy Hollow. The mood is probably closest to Ed Wood, of all Burton's previous work (I can't think of much else from Ed Wood in terms of specific shots being referenced, but I haven't seen it in a while; if I saw them close to each other I might pick something up).
Trying to get T. to go to a Cure release party later this week. Come on! It'll be fun! I'll wear something fabulous! We'll see how effective my powers of persuasion actually are. In the meantime, I have GRE vocab to study, and sleep to get, and a Godzilla movie on for atmosphere, and a bit of a cough (but a much better mood than the last few days), so I'm signing off.
Oh, yeah! Looks like I'll be housebound tomorrow... we're expecting another snowstorm, maybe 5" or so. I guess I'll assemble more furniture or something. because yikes.

IT IS AMAZING
I got it on Friday (a perk of working in a record store) and have been listening to nothing but. The picutres are fantastic, and the book inside has some really interesting little blurbs about the songs...and the songs! Oh my god!

2) i still have the $50 my dad sent me for xmas. that should just about cover it.
but i'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be door prizes of some kind & that they'll be playing stuff from the set.
