OK, so... last I heard, it was Clive "Insanely Hot" Owen who was going to be playing Sirius Black in The Prisoner of Azkaban.
Now it's Gary Oldman?
and David Thewlis as Lupin?
I guess I can leave my drool napkin at home for this one.
Thrilled that they cast Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, though. He's one of the very best actors I can think of. Another chameleon - can you quite fit Sir William from Gosford Park, Baltus van Tassel from Sleepy Hollow, General Zevo from Toys, the clockmaker from Longitude and the murderous gangster from The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover into the same space in your brain? I can't. I think he'll do a great job.
(my personal choice would have been John Neville, who was Baron Munchausen and who played Well-Manicured Man on The X-Files for years, but he wasn't anywhere near up for consideration; as such, I am totally pleased that they cast Gambon.)
and hey, Timothy Spall - that Tweedledum/Tweedledee-looking actor who is in absolutely every English movie coming out in the last few years - is playing Peter Pettigrew. That's a good choice, except I like Spall, there's a kindness and generosity about him which may not be appropriate for Pettigrew.
this is all weird - I'm much more interested in the casting of the films than in the films themselves. This third one should be good, with Cuaron at the helm, but in general I have thus far mostly been a fan of the books and haven't liked the orgy of merchandising that came with the movies... the films themselves have had pacing and acting problems.
Alas for Clive Owen. Don't they know I was looking forward to that?
*sigh*

Date: 2003-02-24 02:59 pm (UTC)... And not at all like his character in Naked! (I know Alfonso CuarĂ³n has a penchant for the transgressive, but ...).
Clive Owen would have made a wholly suitable Sirius, though. Gaz Oldman will have to issue a lot of mea culpas to make me overlook his participation in that "two felons and a baby" (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0215516) picture, but I'm still holding out hope ... .
