blitzed!

I'm pretty useless right now. I got home and caught most of Waking the Dead, but I am having a very hard time concentrating on anything. Tired, and my back has decided to be screwed up from all the driving I did tonight.

So... I spent the day on my feet picking up around the house. Then I slipped on higher heels and stepped out.

I went to the gym first. We became full members on August 1st but had not used our memberships since then, and I had to pay September dues to avoid being dropped. When I got to the gym, the official bookkeeper happened to be working, wouldn't let me pay September dues, and started our memberships on October 1st instead of August 1st, effectively giving us 3 free months for the price of 1 (granted, we didn't use two of them). Nobody else in the gym volunteer hierarchy could have done this, except maybe the president. (It's a member-owned and volunteer-staffed gym.) I was totally thrilled to save the money... $60 today and another $50 for October. No money due again until November. Yay for nice older ladies.

I stopped for dinner and drove to the airport to surprise the momster, who was expecting me to pick her up at the curbside an hour after her flight was supposed to land. I snuck up on her at baggage claim. She was initially ungrateful, wanting to be picked up and to have time to smoke. I was frustrated because she brought a GIGANTIC extra bag that I hadn't planned-for in the car. It all worked OK though.

Also frustrated because she then wanted to be taken to the car that was parked at the airport since she left. That's about $350 in parking fees, if you're counting. She got money from one or more of her brothers, so the parking was taken care of, but it was frustrating to me that I drove all the way out there (IN THE RAIN!) basically for nothing, since she drove herself home!

When I walked up to the car, which was parked by a lakey pond feature thingbob, I noticed that there was a tiny tiny perfect little frog on the trunk lid near the license plate. I mean, about an inch long, shiny green, little black eyes. Got it to hop into my hand, cupped it, and carried it about 50 feet into the grass near the pond. When I stopped and let it go, it wouldn't leave, and clung to my hand for a half-minute or so, its little hands and feet wrapped around my finger. Cold and a little wet. It finally hopped off into the grass. I hope it knew on some level that I was trying to help it. A minute later I discovered another frog, very slightly larger, and I tried to do the same service, but it was having none of me, and hopped off on its own across the parking lot.

We took a detour to have dinner at Downtown Disney - Wolfgang Puck's - fab pop decor, yummy vegetarian spring rolls with plum sauce and pumpkin mezzaluna ravioli with port wine sauce. About the same price as chicken with a bowl of soup from Friday's (our other option), maybe even a little less, and sooooo much tastier. The momster went to the car and I went into the Virgin Megastore for a few minutes. Saw things I wanted - journals, mostly (new Sandman ones with Amano artwork, also a neat Andy Warhol Idea Book with a lenticular cover - all by Chronicle Books). Bopped to General Public and A-ha all the way home. BUT NOW MY BACK HURTS A LOT FROM ALL THE DRIVING.

and I'm blitzed and useless to all, until I get some sleep and some chocolate. Well, just sleep. chocolate is wishful thinking. the momster is in her room opening her mail and shows no signs of slowing down soon. not me! thud.
