I had kind of a long day today, but a good day, but I didn't get to squeeze in some things I really wanted to accomplish. But I guess there are worse things.

I spent too long in the afternoon harassing CB and a few other people via AIM, while I was getting ready to go. I swear, it takes me like 15 minutes to get ready to go anywhere, unless I'm talking to people, in which case it takes hours. CB was being mean to me (well, not really, just teasing, but I wasn't in the mood for it).

Finally left, went to the post office, called LH to see if he wanted to hang out tonight. His "new" girlfriend was driving out tonight for the weekend & we decided to all go to dinner at Carrabba's (he's actually been dating her for nearly a year, I just haven't really hung out with him much since they started dating, so I'd never met her). Great! Fine. I had some errands to run in that area, and I planned to be done with dinner by about 8:30 and make it home in time to get my submission in for [livejournal.com profile] lunch_buffet by 10, since I had told [livejournal.com profile] watrfae that I would try to get something in.

So, I went to the bookstore, looked at a few books, drank an iced mocha. They called halfway through the mocha, so I figured I would finish it, head to the restaurant, wait a few minutes for a table (the wait was supposed to be 25-35 minutes), eat with them, return something to a store across the street from the restaurant that was to close at 9:30 PM, head home and type up the Lunch Buffet sub, mail it off, and then head back out to hang out with LH and Dawn at another venue.

Well, our around-a-half-hour wait turned into 90 minutes or so. I did have fun talking to D, who seems really cool, and I see some positive changes in LH that I never saw when he was dating other girls (he's completely cleanshaven & his bathroom is clean!) I didn't mind the wait, but by the time we had been seated it was already almost 9PM, and by the time we finished it was 945. I knew I wouldn't finish the sub on time for the print deadline, so I just skipped it. This was all apparently because instead of normal parties of people ahead of us, there were at least three parties of around 10 people... meaning that they took up two or three tables instead of just one.

Stopped at home briefly to pick up a Scrabble game and my design portfolio to show them, and headed down to LH's mom's house, where he still has a small apartment in addition to his actual apartment that is closer to his job. They were already there, and we played Scrabble and watched Farscape (well, it was on, anyway). It was a good time but I had to bow out on a second game, cos I knew I would be too tired to make the 30-minute drive home if I stayed another hour or so. LH gave me a very late xmas present... last year he had given me Austin Powers action figures for Xmas, so he continued the theme this year & gave me the ULTRA-MOD Carnaby Street Austin figure. So mod it hurts. Not hurting as much as Jarvis Cocker marrying not-me, but you know, whatever. ;)

(Somewhere in the middle of all this, I also got attacked by a Slurpee machine at 7-11, but it is not a story worth telling, except to say that even when my cup was full the slurp kept pouring and pouring and pouring out of the machine, which would not turn off.)

So... now I'm home.

And I won the Scrabble game, with the "X".

Yeehaw!

You Are a Henna Gaijin!

You're not Japanese, but you wish you were!

You can use chopsticks with your eyes closed, and you've memorized hundreds of Kanji.

You even answer your phone "moshi moshi."

While the number of anime videos you've seen is way higher than the number of dates you've been on, there's hope.

Play the sexy, mysterous gaijin, and you'll have plenty of Japanese meat.

What's *Your* Japanese Subculture?

I don't like sushi at all, and I'm not after "Japanese meat" (ew on the phrasing; if i fell in love with a Japanese person, fine, but I'm not one of those creepy asia-fetishists), and I think my number of dates and number of anime videos is probably pretty equal... I'm not a total otaku. but I am interested in Japanese culture, history, language, etc.

I followed your link to the lunch buffet community, and was all impressed. I think I've seen another one of [livejournal.com profile] watrfae's zines in another community and it was also a neat idea- budget vegetarianism was the theme I think.

Would it be all right if I were to try and submit something for the next [livejournal.com profile] lunch_buffet? I wouldn't want to if it bothered you- if it would be stepping on your toes.

(At any rate, it does sound nifty; I hope I remember to try and get a copy.)

oh, heavens, my toes are not even an issue! if you're interested, i guess you should join the lunch_buffet community and talk to watrfae; it's all her thing. and as far as I know, submissions are pretty open... so yeah, give it a try!

Thanks!
I will figure out whether I've got anything that seems like it might work, and then I will.
