take my revolution, please!

I am up too late...
capsule version is that my mom and uncle are leaving in the morning to rush to my grandmother's bedside via air travel. less capsule version will come tomorrow afternoon. probably friends-only.
i spent the evening with
hyper_ballad, who is moving tomorrow morning (only an hour away)... "helped" her pack (we talked, she packed... not that I wouldn't have helped, just that she didn't really seem to need it), and then we went to play Dance Dance Revolution. The DDR machine at the first arcade we went to was swarmed by very pissy 10-year-old boys, so we left and went to a different, nicer arcade and played a similar machine called Pump It Up, from Korea instead of Japan, and with a center footpad (DDR just has footpads on the four corners of a square, PIU adds one in the middle). IT WAS REALLY HARD. h_b does really well on them, because she's mildly obsessed and practices at home and stuff, but it was my first time ever on one and I basically blew. There was one song called Pump Jump that I do have some hope of learning sometime, though... I was starting to pick it up on the easy format.
Anyway, she wanted to get rid of her hard DDR pad and was selling it on ebay, and instead sold it to meeeee! Now all I need is a cd... I have the playstation already... i'm going to get the DDR-Konamix cd. Soon I too will be a fledgling para para girl. man, it's a workout. But a fun one. and I miss dancing regularly.
we went to applebee's after that, then back to her house and played imaginary fashion police, and then i came home because i needed to discuss some logistics with my mom.
gotta get to bed so I can get up in 4 hours or so and drive to the airport. blaaaaahhhh.

Date: 2002-08-02 03:14 am (UTC)basically there is a platform in front of the screen, with pressure-sensitive panels that you dance on. the screen has arrows that show you which panel to step on at what time... they scroll up the screen and when they hit the top is when you're supposed to step on that panel! and when you step on the panel it lights up. there are many different songs you can choose, as well as different levels on the songs - the harder levels have more and/or faster footwork. i'm not sure how DDR grades things but PIU grades you at the end of a song, from A to F. the at-home versions have different modes and you have to buy a footpad, which is a Playstation attachment for DDR and a slightly different pc attachment for PIU. If you're looking to try it out, call around to some local arcades and ask if they have Dance Dance Revolution or some similar "dance game". and for heaven's sake start on the easy mode... even that was too hard for me. :)
