I really hate Neil Young.

But here is an interesting list of 100 Overrated "Essential" Albums.

incidentally, i have more than a few of what's listed! but i'm not getting rid of them. especially not to replace them with Neil Young. *snort*
and I do have all the Pixies albums, except the bsides import. :)

(hey presto, a bonus link! Super Mario Bros. is Communist Propaganda!)

that list is something alright... I have SO MANY of those records! And I Don't Care!!! The Clash are absolutely the best punk band of all time, Joshua Tree is a great album, Violent Femmes still hold up (in my opinion), I could go on and on. I do agree with The Grateful Dead, but I also never gave them a chance so I don't think I could back that opinion up with facts, not that this writer used anything other than opinion and smugness! I'm reminded of the people who only like a band until they become popular (ie. can actually make a livig) and then they say "oh, yeah, they USED to be good... before they SOLD OUT". I HATE THAT!

I just *got* Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. a late birthday present from [livejournal.com profile] nadja! i'm so not going to turn around and sell it. (this is where i look around suspiciously and tell everyone to keep their hands off my post-gish Pumpkins collection.) i don't think i'd get rid of Nevermind ("drain you"! "lithium"!) or Heaven or Las Vegas (which i think is one of the two worst albums by one of my top five bands, the other and worser being "victorialand" - i'm also not crazy about "garlands" tho i have warmed up to it over the years), either. those are the three that come to mind when i'm not actually looking at the list. they aren't essential components of my collection, but they aren't things i'm looking to sell, either.

Same, yes 'ditto' to all the above. I started reading the list and thought, "hey, waitta minute, I've got those too(!)" but I reckon THEY'RE WRONG ..humphh [well, I would, wouldn't I?]

...I'm still chasing The Clash live mp3's around the 'net everyday :) ..never tired of that search

What a silly list. Half of it just reeks of "I'm too indie for you"-ness, and the other half of it reminds me of an illegible LJ or usenet post.

I felt tempted to email them that Morrissey never had a self-titled album, but the list almost seemed to be a self-parody just begging for people to write in.

And yes, I have more than a few of them as well, including the top three. No Captain Beefheart or Neil Young, however.

That sounds like something written by my friend Sharkey-the-ultimate-elitist. I do have quite a few cds (and even LPs) on that list and guess what, I still like 'em. Okay, I still don't own The Joshua Tree because I hated it at the time (and still find it mostly boring) but whatev. I can't believe anyone would think that anything by Capt. Beefheart was too mainstream. Sheesh. (I do agree with the assessment that Sgt. Pepper and Tommy are overrated but that doesn't mean one shouldn't own them at all!)

geez, i don't think i agree with a majority of that list. i think a lot of those albums really are great in their own right. even the ones that i don't like, like no doubt's "tragic kingdom" are considered good and loved for a reason. they must have done SOMETHING right... =\

but hey, they're no neil diamond!
[whenever i think of neil diamond, i think of will ferrell's impersonation of him on SNL].
