So! today I got all industrious... went out for breakfast, did some housework, talked to my mom, and took a long afternoon nap. Got up, set up the various videotapes for the evening, got ready, went out and got Star Wars tickets for me and N and B. An awful moment when the theater, which is new, couldn't take my card because their system isn't set up yet... so I had to pay them cash. I only had something like $30 til next weekend, now I only have $13. But I do also have lots of credit & will get repaid $12 of what I spent.

I'd called B. to tell him I was going out to get the tickets and might be going to the bookstore, but was undecided so he should call me if he was coming along. He never called (dinner at his dad's house), but I decided to go to the store anyway, where I had dinner (credit, yay) and dessert and a cafe au lait (decaf). He showed up around 10, paid me for his movie ticket, and we sat around looking at books and went outside to chatter when the store closed at 11. Finally left around midnight.

It's been windy the last few days; it was cooler tonight, so in a long sundress and a cardigan over it I was almost too cold. This is a nice turn in the weather, as the month has been unbearably hot until now.

I bought God-Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo & Lies My Teacher Told Me (by someone whose name I can't recall). I will probably scan over both of them and then return whichever one I don't think I'll get around to reading. Which will probably be the former (gen-x novel) rather than the latter (US history exposé).

Tonight - I'm going to bed earlier than I have been, but I want to do some more housework and art stuff first.

James Van Loewen -- I have it on my shelf as I write. He's kinda strident, hit-you-over-the-head with his politics, a quality I find off-putting in writing. I'm not sure someone would really get into it unless they were a history professional, but there are some real insights in the book. The other thing is that in the years since it appeared, a lot of the textbooks he critiques have been retired. There's still a lot of mediocrity out there (I look over this for a living), but the picture has improved.

Just my 2c.
