OK, I really dig Chateau Bizarre, which is a review and reference site for small online businesses that create or sell goods to the various alternative communities - anything from Buy Olympia to Gaijin Geisha to fake hair sites to places that sell makeup and accessories by Cookie Puss to other places that sell sofas shaped like lips to yet more places that sell creepy art dolls to blah blah blah. If it could be considered eccentric, arty, tasteless, tacky, fabulous, or glam, it's probably there.

What I am not, however, completely happy about: a review that showed up there earlier this week for a line of not-too-tacky stripper-wear that the adventurous could presumably also wear to clubs. What is the name of this line? Star Lust Clothing.

I have been thinking of dumping starlust.org as a domain for a while now, because I think the name might convey The Wrong Impression. There have already been sites with the same name... um, the kind of places that showcase fake nudes of various actresses. Now it's a site of stripper clothes. (Some of which are pretty hot, by the way.)

"Starlust" is a song by Lush, which is presumably about a goofy crush. I love Lush. My historical clan motto is "per ardua" (through/[despite] difficulty), and another version of this which has coincidentally been attached to several institutions with which I've been connected is, "ad astra per ardua." (The literal translation isn't that helpful, "to the stars through difficulty," but the meaning is something more like, "Despite hardships, I will reach the stars.") And I like starry nights; they make me dreamy and expansive. So for me the "lust" in starlust has nothing to do with sexual or physical desire, and more to do with persistence and longing to do as well as I can in anything I should choose to attempt. (I am not good at this, but it is my ideal.) I have had starlust.org for over 5 years and am not really sure I want to change it, though in some cases a change might be easier and more intuitive w/r/t the ways I actually use the site.

OTOH - on the internet, porn mecca of the universe, I should really know better than to have a site with "lust" in the name.

Note - I'm not sulking about the name of the stripperwear company, nor am I suggesting that they "stole" it from me or that they should change it. People will probably not confuse our sites; .org sites are rarely confused with any that are commercial. I'm just... eh, I don't really want people to think that I chose my domain name for reasons to do with lasciviousness.
