our hineys saved. hopefully.
Oct. 17th, 2005 03:12 amSo, some of you may have noticed that I'm getting married in about a year. I would be getting married sooner; needing to have time to save money to pay for the wedding is the major reason that I'm having a fancy Victorian-style TWO-YEAR ENGAGEMENT. (sigh)
Tom has gotten a lot of extra illustration work lately, enough that, assuming he gets paid, we shouldn't have too many problems pulling off the very modest wedding we want. We planned it for Oct. 1 in a local garden and could have made the reservation as early as Sept. 30th. But the people he's been working for are dragging their heels a little about paying him (he's done $7000 in work for them, and has only seen $400 so far), so we haven't been able to make the reservation.* Our backup date, Oct. 15, has also come and gone.
It's likely that the date hasn't been booked - the location is booked year-to-date, meaning that they wouldn't have taken any reservations until 1 year before the desired date, and not that many people want to get married outside on a Sunday in early October. But we won't know until we try to book it.
Tom's parents are paying for half of the wedding site - the half related to the reception they want us to have. I told him that he needed to get the money for their half from them, so it's available as soon as we need it to book the site with. He'd forgotten to do this, since he hasn't been paid for his art yet and it's all kind of moot until then. I reminded him earlier this week to ask them, so that we'd be able to book ASAP when he gets paid for that freelance work, hopefully in the next few weeks.
Well, he talked to his parents today. They are sending him a check for $1000 this week; his grandfather's estate has finally been settled, and the money is floating around, and they're in it for at least that much anyway. So we should be able to book the site by the end of the week, assuming it's still available. If it isn't, we need to go back and pick a new date or a new location. Either way, we'll have something worked out in the next ten days, and a big load off my mind.
Now I just have to find that perfect red or green dress. (Damn it, why am I not bestest friends with anyone who can sew really well? Damn damn damn.)
* I was supposed to come up with half of this, but Tom told me not to worry about it after he found out that he was getting this huge amount of work. As for the $300 that we're "borrowing" from what his parents are sending, we'll be putting $300 of it back into the "reception fund" after Tom gets paid.
