It's my doggie's third birthday! Yayyyy! She gets better-behaved every day.
But that's not the pet story I'm writing about tonight, no.
We have this small throw pillow in the living room. It was purchased a few years ago, to keep in the car, coincidentally, for the dog. But for some reason my mother decided to bring it into the house, and in the last month or two, she's been allowing the cats to use it to sharpen their claws on. Over my protests. (They need something more appropriate on which to knead their claws.) However, I was not having much success in explaining that A) I didn't want the cats messing with ANY cushions, and B) I wanted my mother to stick with this program too.
So, over the last few months, the cats have been allowed to hop on this pillow, and knead and tear at it to their little hearts' content. We've noticed that Max spends a lot more time on it than Nicky does. He also hunches his back and straddles the pillow and I had a bad feeling about this but I could never quite figure out why. Until the other day, when I was sitting on the sofa very near the location of the pillow at the intersection of chaise and sofa, and lifted Max's tail... I'm not really sure why, I think I wanted to annoy him so that he'd leave the pillow alone. However, I discovered the reason for his devotion to the pillow, played out several times a day. And I'm sure you can guess where this is going...
Yeah, the cat is pleasuring himself with the pillow. ("I'm neutered, not DEAD!") And now nobody wants to touch the thing. "Do you know how many times I've rested my head on that pillow in just the last few weeks?" my mother squealed, and I resisted the I-told-you-so urge.
EW EW EW EW EW EW EW EW....
In related "nobody likes people who blog about their cat" news, I took a couple of funny pictures of Nicky today. He was sitting in the middle of the sofa like a human. If I'd had a little cat-sized can of beer to set next to him, it would have been perfect.
