I just did some maintenance and dropped a handful of people, mostly people who had dropped me; this was kind of depressing because they were mostly longtime LJ friends who I really liked, & I think they probably dropped me primarily because I haven't been commenting on anyone else's journals lately. I also kept a handful of these people & maybe we'll reconnect when I'm reading & commenting again regularly - or maybe not. (it could just be because I am phenomenally dull and self-absorbed...)
Last night I didn't sleep at all - sore ear and insomnia, how I hate thee - until like 9 or 10 AM, and then only for a couple of hours. So I'm really tired today. I've written a little, done a crossword, had hot cocoa, that kind of thing. I'm going to stay up for Sex and the City and probably crash out sometime before midnight.
Speaking of Sex and the City - a lot of articles and so on, on and offline, have mentioned the girls as "pathetic" - I don't think that's entirely true. I certainly think that Samantha and Carrie are pathetic (both largely unable to make emotional connections, and both twitchy and nitpicky when they finally do, or choosing really badly, or both). I don't think that Charlotte and Miranda are pathetic; they both seem to have learned a lot in the course of the show. & there's this strange alchemy, how they can make a really cute guy look lame (like almost any of the failed relationship partners any of the ladies have had) or a guy who seems initially kind of creepy seem really cute in 2 or 3 episodes. Case in point, Harry - I hated him when he first came on the show last season, and thought he was really sleazy and unattractive. Now a few episodes on, he and Charlotte are so good together, and he seems cute and loveable (albeit still not my type). I really hope they don't "turn" the character again, and that it works out for Charlotte this time. I also hope that Miranda can get it together with Steve. Who knows what Carrie and Samantha will do. (However, in the book that the show was based on, Samantha ended up the most-conventionally-married of all of them, living in L.A. with her husband.)
I'm going to go watch TV, work on jewelry, maybe do a little research.
