hospital visit
May. 13th, 2003 06:50 pmThe little computer is in the computer hospital where he was born. If it is indeed a power supply failure, the repair is totally free: he's guaranteed for three years, and he isn't three years old yet. He'll be out of the hospital probably no later than Thursday. (Oddly, I have a doc's appointment on Thursday as well...)
There's an antiques consignment mall next to the computer hospital, so we stopped in there... and I SCORED. I got the coolest old handmade box purse. Someone took all these acid-bright 50s-thru-70s prints, cut them into small squares, arranged them in a grid (tilted to diamond shapes), and covered the joins with white rickrack before glazing the whole mess. Has a metal handle, a mirror inside; I don't like the fabric inside, but it's still pretty nice, and the whole purse is so happy kitschy retro summery. I also got a bank, maybe 8" tall, of a girl in a kerchief and skirt standing next to an organ grinder with a monkey on it. It's that kind of Japanese pottery from maybe the 60s where all the primary shades are done in day-glo shades. I'll post pics when Fat Man is working again (this computer doesn't make FTP easy). My mom bought... mainly because I made her... a Connie Francis Sings Italian album, which just has really awesome cover art.
I also picked up a PC repair/ part installation book. Not Upgrading and Repairing PCs, which I decided was more technical than I really need (I understand it, and it was a book I enjoyed browsing through in 1995, but it has more technical information than I really need if I am not myself working in PC repair, and it cost $20 more than the one I chose). I plan to pick up a 40gb hard disk for Fat Man... the disk is currently so small, and he really needs a slave drive for data storage.
Also,
arwen_isobel just peed on my mom. hee hee. (not a lot, and it served the momster right for letting the dog give her a hug when the dog really really needed to go out first and hug later.)
