apparently sleeping is dangerous in this house, because your momster might wake up hours before you (SNEAKY!) and go out and BUY A PUPPY. (not adopt, mind you. sigh. bought from a pet store. not even a breeder. don't get me started.)

it's a female sheltie. she won't be home for a few hours.
i didn't really want a sheltie, and the house is soooooo NOT dogproofed.
poor katzen, what they don't know is coming for them! :(

still, doggies are nice and all.
i told my mom not to even consider coming home without a good-sized crate.

ok, first of all, you should send your condolences & good wishes to mulberrymoon... her dad died & she's having a rough time.

second of all, i found out that the puppy is AKC-registered & came from a breeder rather than a puppy mill or anything like that. We know who her parents are and who owns them. We have her papers. She has a very clean bill of health and is a "pet-quality" dog. The store where my mom bought her is not part of a chain; it's privately owned, and the owner only buys puppies from reputable (ehhhh) breeders (ehhhh because I'm not sure any seriously reputable breeder would sell puppies to a pet store, even one that has a good reputation and all). I still don't feel good about this manner of acquisition, but it's at least a relief to know that she's a happy puppy from decent conditions.

oh, the puppy is really cute. she's 3 months old and she saw our regular vet today, and they agree she is in top condition and "a beautiful, beautiful dog." There will be pictures. She is a very elegant little girl.

Mom doesn't like Lhiannan/Leeloo as a name (well, the latter but not the former), others are being pondered. I think she should have some kind of celtic name, as per her breed. That baby-names-from-hell page had a whole list of Welsh stuff that might work out. We have also considered calling her "kitsune" (but decided that she would probably end up being called "kitty", if that were the case, which would be weird and confusing to her), and one-of-the-powerpuff-names, rejected by me as "lame".

I'm going to a H'ween party later tonight with Louis. He's going as an evil clown and I'm wearing my costume from last night. This is assuming I don't beg off due to tiredness, after running some errands (have to buy a dog book, and a leash and poopscoop bags, and a SQUEAKY TOY - and, incidentally, my knitting basket).
