Thank heaven for EKnitting. They have a good selection of yarn and needles, they ship priority mail (or overnight or 2nd day, if you want), their site is easy to navigate, and they gave me 25% off the first order (three balls of "raspberry pink" cotton/alpaca yarn, and two sets of Brittany birch needles). We'll see how good the service actually is or is not. Patternworks also looks good, so I might try them next time.

Other than that, I got a good night's sleep and awoke to the N-cat, who is supposedly "mine" but who has been treating me like I'm a plague zombie, snuggling into the curve of my stomach with his head resting on my leg and one of his back paws in my hand. So endearing. I moved the hand into which he'd set his paw, and petted him, and he rested his head in it. I guess we're friends again.

Last night, among some of the usual common themes in my dreams, I dreamt that my mother had bought me a number of fish and hamsters and guinea pigs but had made no provision for their care and when I came home from somewhere, there were little fish flopping about in my kitchen and hamsters running around in my garage. I also dreamed that I was Felicity (yes, from the show) and my house (in this part of the dream, not my normal house) was used as a "club" and I was throwing a party there, and some boy tried to steal my PPG barettes and a pretty case they came in, and I chased him down and made him give them back, but then his mom came and tried to kill the N-cat and tried to sue me for assault and battery. Where's Ben when you need him?
Got dressed and went out for "breakfast" (breakfast food, anyhow) for the first time in a while. Went to the little place I like that's only open til 2PM. Had to coerce mom to tip... she wasn't going to just because the waitstaff was cleaning while we were eating (duh, we got there 20 minutes before closing, and they were still nice and brought our food and stuff). It'd be one thing if we were talking about a $20 tip at a "nice" restaurant, but this was like a $2-3 tip at a brunch "diner". I gave her a steely glare and made her cough up the extra dollar or so.

Mom is ultra-mega-uber cranky today: fussing and kvetching about absolutely everything and generally being a big ol' bitch. The less said the better. It's very difficult to be around. Anything I say is either A)"yapping" or B)a personal affront. She's about to take D-cat to the vet (because he's had diarrhea since yesterday and is probably reacting to his antibiotic).

There is a dead squirrel in the middle of our street, almost in front of the house, the second time this has happened in the last year. As we were driving home, I saw a large animal shape in the middle of the road... a vulture. Normally you see these guys out on the highway, but I've never seen one in this neighborhood, and I've lived here for 13 years... I've certainly never seen one this close outside of a zoo. He flew up and landed on my neighbor's roof to escape the oncoming traffic, and then when I came within view (I was looking at him and thinking of taking his picture... he was almost goose-size), he left the roof and started circling. My mother was considering "letting D-cat sit outside in his cage" and I gave her my "are you NUTS?" look. I mean, there is A VULTURE right there. D-cat may be a huge feline supervillain but right now he's not doing too well and I'd hate for a vulture to get the idea that he might make a good snack if he doesn't move around too much.
Mom is still being difficult. Though a step is that she has finally consented to see a therapist or psychiatrist. She most likely needs therapy and an antidepressant, to begin with; possibly also a benzo.

Went out to Target tonight to find a bday present for Autumn's little sprout who is turning 3 at the end of the month, and left with a satisfactory gift as well as a new miniature George Foreman grill, a Powerpuff Girls travel mug, and some house and cleaning stuff. Took things back to Sam's that didn't fit (reversible sundresses) and picked up some more large bath towels as well as a sundress that did fit, for me (and nothing too horrible - black georgette with jewel-tone floral patterns), and a pair of overalls on cheap cheap clearance. Also one of the new Gilette "Venus" razors - a Mach3 in chick's clothing. I just bought new blades for my SensorExcel razors like earlier this week. *sigh* I'll be using them up first...

Got rerouted on the way home due to a BAD accident; several blocks of a major state road were closed, and you couldn't see what was going on, which probably means someone was about to be airlifted. Had a turkey sub for dinner. Am going to spend the rest of the evening working on my closet and clothing and such, watching PPG, doing laundry, etc. Also going to start marinating chicken breasts for tomorrow night. Intensely exciting.
