Got dressed and went out for "breakfast" (breakfast food, anyhow) for the first time in a while. Went to the little place I like that's only open til 2PM. Had to coerce mom to tip... she wasn't going to just because the waitstaff was cleaning while we were eating (duh, we got there 20 minutes before closing, and they were still nice and brought our food and stuff). It'd be one thing if we were talking about a $20 tip at a "nice" restaurant, but this was like a $2-3 tip at a brunch "diner". I gave her a steely glare and made her cough up the extra dollar or so.
Mom is ultra-mega-uber cranky today: fussing and kvetching about absolutely everything and generally being a big ol' bitch. The less said the better. It's very difficult to be around. Anything I say is either A)"yapping" or B)a personal affront. She's about to take D-cat to the vet (because he's had diarrhea since yesterday and is probably reacting to his antibiotic).
There is a dead squirrel in the middle of our street, almost in front of the house, the second time this has happened in the last year. As we were driving home, I saw a large animal shape in the middle of the road... a vulture. Normally you see these guys out on the highway, but I've never seen one in this neighborhood, and I've lived here for 13 years... I've certainly never seen one this close outside of a zoo. He flew up and landed on my neighbor's roof to escape the oncoming traffic, and then when I came within view (I was looking at him and thinking of taking his picture... he was almost goose-size), he left the roof and started circling. My mother was considering "letting D-cat sit outside in his cage" and I gave her my "are you NUTS?" look. I mean, there is A VULTURE right there. D-cat may be a huge feline supervillain but right now he's not doing too well and I'd hate for a vulture to get the idea that he might make a good snack if he doesn't move around too much.

Date: 2001-03-09 11:25 am (UTC)Diner's are the best for breakfast food! And all the best diners close at 2pm... at least my two faves in PA and NJ. Two of those old shiny chrome kinds! Yum!
