Spent today as planned... after I wrote my last entry we trekked out to Book Empire (er, that is, Barnes and Noble), and I sat there for like two hours flipping through books. Journal to the Self and David Schickler's new book of short stories, mostly, as well as a book on decorating apartments on a budget. I was going to buy this month's "Art in America", which has a special on Takeshi Murakami, whose show WB tried to convince me to go to in NYC. I didn't go. I like his work though... the style is known as "superflat". Was also going to buy a funny birthday card to have on hand, but at the last minute I just didn't feel like waiting in line.

After that we went to the salon for milady's appointment... I was not particularly happy with the fact that she got a haircut almost identical to mine. The only major difference is that I have longer strands around the face and retro-short bangs. But I guess it looks nice on her. I complained about my streaky mousy/brassy blonde shade to my lovely stylist, and I have an appointment for more highlights in a week.

stopped at the indie-punk store on the way home, and found a darling dress, a belted shift/slip in rayon crepe, a pinkish neutral ground with a profusion of small red and black chess pieces on it. chatted with the salesgirl, who seemed pretty cool.

So then I came home and ate something and I'm getting ready to go to bed. I've been awake for 24 hours. Hopefully this will help me get back to normal hours again.

as an aside: I'm such fucking little miss bourgeois privilege that it makes me ill sometimes. i can't decide whether it would be better or worse to pretend that i'm "edgy" and "hip" and have some kind of job in advertising or something, or just be my ill pampered self. probably each is equally objectionable. just wait until i have my design degree. it can be a particularly soulless profession. "Use your skills for good! Don't turn to the Dark Side of the Force!" heh heh heh...

oh hell. if you can get a gig on the dark side - take it. you can always get a conscious later.

you know, i really need you to go shopping for me. we have exactly no indi=punk stores here.

Wow! I would have thought that you had some accessible. Um... you could always try online... ordering from Lip Service or findcoolclothes.com or something. Lots of places out there. Half my clothes are from Ross or Express or The Gap anyway... jcrew if I can afford it. Hot Topic for t-shirts made for them and cheapo strange accessories. Vintage dresses from thrift or vintage stores.

This particular dress I got was by Free People, so they might be floating around Urban Outfitters, if you can get to one (Free People is one of their in-house brands). But my local store is a surf-punk hipster local-owned place that buys whatever they like from their buyers.

my euro friends say I'm not, but I feel like such an American. I have too much, more than I really "need". *sigh*

I always do that at Barnes and noble, almost by a funny card and then don't, flip through lots of books, leave empty handed.

Want to keep normal hours, but think of all the infomercials you'll miss!!

Oh! I made you an icon, the picture reminded me of you, for some reason, and I was making icons for other people, so I made you one too.

yes.

oh, thanks. it's cute. i'll try to remember to upload it...

i don't watch infomercials... I tend to sit up all night talking to some combination of Ragdoll, Jet, and MrAnthrope, and webbrowsing, and reading/knitting/doing housework. I watch so little TV anymore, especially now that the shows I like, never numbering more than a small handful, are all in reruns. Oh, except Sex and the City. :) (DSS=200-odd channels, and nothing good on...)
