Ow. I need to go get some stuff done today, but as it happens I also need a break. The last two days took a lot out of me, so that by last night I was in excruciating pain in most of my joints, had to shuffle around, and went to bed early (930PM, though I had been up 15 hours by that point).
Yesterday was comprised of a silly errand and then my mother's mad quest for a straw summer bag and matching hat (unfulfilled, I might add). I got blisters and a new pair of Scandanavian-looking sandals. I got a new pillow. I listened to the new REM cd in the car on the way home (also acquired the new Depeche Mode, but am afraid of it as I haven't heard much good about it; forgot to get new Placebo cd). I didn't eat enough for dinner. I did knit about 6" of that thing for my grandmother, which is turning out nicely and is somewhere between 2.5 and 3 feet wide.
I hurt. I'm staying in, today. I overdid it & need some rest. I'll catch up on my reading & such. There are ways to be productive even in a single room.

Date: 2001-05-16 06:59 am (UTC)i think how the cast-on looks is dependent on how you did your tension and stuff. but my first few rows of garter stitch are always tighter and weirder than the rest of the item...
ooh, if you've been using like Red Heart yarn or something like that, try Lion Brand Homespun... it's still pretty cheap, still acrylic, but it has a neat boucl? texture and the variegated kinds come out really pretty. I'm using the color "nouveau" and it's so nice that I want to make a little sweater out of it soon.

Date: 2001-05-16 07:59 am (UTC)if you're not used to knitting yet stick with the red heart... the Homespun is so great tho. the thing I'm making is so pretty and soft. I never thought I'd find an acrylic I liked. however, if you're still just starting... it could be hard to work with. sometimes i snag things.
there is a knitting community here, but nobody is using it. i don't own it and i don't know who does, and last i checked i was the only member. i'm thinking of starting another and recruiting people, calling it "knitwits" or something. think i should?
