Blaaaaah. Today has been a nothing day. See, my housematemom didn't go to sleep last night, and left the house really early to run some errands. Around the time she left, the dog started barking. The dog who sleeps at the foot of my bed. Barking at an impressive level. I'd only been asleep for a few hours, but she woke me up. I tried to get her to hush for a while, then finally went into my mom's room, where the DVD player is, to watch a movie.

Picked The Rules of Attraction from the stack I rented earlier in the week. It's, um, I suppose it's good. It's pretty nasty, actually. It starts with the main characters getting raped and filmed (Lauren), getting spat-on for being gay (Paul), and hooking up with a girl he's using for sex (Sean). It's about college students being shitty to each other, doing a lot of drugs, and going to a lot of parties. Sean is a drug dealer who is getting notes from a secret admirer, who he thinks might be Lauren. Lauren is a virgin (sort of) who actually studies on weekends, who wants to lose it with a guy she had been dating earlier that year, Victor, who is now spending the semester in Europe. Paul is a beautiful gay boy who has no luck with men, and a major crush on Sean. Lara is Lauren's roommate, who we find out at the very beginning of the movie (which is also the end, as it loops around on itself) is fucking Victor, the guy Lauren has been waiting for. The whole thing is directed by Roger "Killing Zoe" Avary, from a novel by Bret Easton Ellis; Sean is played by James "Dawson" van der Beek, and Lara is played by Jessica "Mary Camden on Seventh Heaven" Biel. Lauren is Shannyn Sossamon, who played Jocelyn in A Knight's Tale. Despite the teenybopper taint, I actually didn't associate the WB kids with their usual roles - maybe because I don't watch either of those shows. It was a decent movie, but I don't know if I'd recommend it, as its moral is "Nobody ever KNOWS anybody else." (repeated by several characters in conversation.) Kind of depressing.

It has an excellent soundtrack, though. Aside from a few 70s weepers, it's full of really good New Wave stuff - The Cure, PiL (or just Johnny Rotten, not sure which), Yaz, a vast array of others. I'm probably going to pick up a copy when I have the chance, if the good stuff is on the commercial version.

Last night I got fed up with something that had been bothering me. I went to the movies Thursday night - not alone, as it turned out - and I couldn't do anything with my hair. It hadn't been trimmed since September. Major split ends. I resolved to get a haircut by Sunday. On the spur of the moment, since my hairstyle is very simple right now, I called one of the mall places who can take last-minute appointments (my regular hairdresser needs like 2 weeks' notice). Clip snip snip. The lady kept me waiting for almost 1/2hr after my appointment time, but she did exactly what I asked for. So now I have taken an inch off the length, which is vaguely past my shoulders, and I have two layers chopped in around my face: one at the chin, one inbetween the chin and the ends. There is actually a third layer, the bangs I'm growing out. So, shoulder-length hair with shorter strands around my face. Yay!

After that, went out for dinner, then came home and packed excess dishes. We have too many mugs. Mugs galore.

I took a nap after the movie and reading this afternoon, and got up and watched Monsters Inc., and am going to watch Possession in a couple of hours. [livejournal.com profile] arwen_isobel is sitting behind me, on my bed, chewing on her treat (one of those dental strips made of compressed shredded rawhide). I'm drinking spring cherry green tea. I would have preferred a good night's sleep, but this isn't a bad alternative.
