Your house is not a black hole for the Kate Bush cds that you infrequently listen to.

Remember how you drove yourself nuts looking for that copy of The Whole Story? So nuts that, because you wanted to hear a couple of songs from it, you ended up checking it out of the library? Then, after returning the library's copy, you spent some time working with your cd books... and lo, there it was, right where it was supposed to be? Only you had stuck another cd in front of it? Yeah.

So now the copy of Hounds of Love that you checked out of the library because you realized that The Whole Story was the only Kate cd you'd ever owned and you didn't know whether or not that was enough for you - now that copy of Hounds of Love has been overdue for almost a week and a half. You knew it was due, but you couldn't find it. You'd put all the Kate cds that you had out over by your stereo in a little stack, but it wasn't in that stack, so where could it be? You checked your car, your mom's, your boyfriend's; your room, the other areas in the house that a CD might get to, a few that it probably wouldn't get to. NOTHING. So tonight you prepared to price a used copy on Amazon to donate to the library as a replacement. And you know what? YOU KNOW WHAT? You saw the cover of Hounds of Love on Amazon, and you groaned, because... the cover in your mind's eye of the cd you were "looking for" was not the same cover. Hounds of Love has been sitting in that stack by your stereo, awaiting discovery. It has awful cover art with tiny italic letters; this probably worked when it was an LP. The point is, it was never lost to begin with, you just didn't look closely enough or know quite what you were looking for.

In other words, self, you have lost two Kate Bush cds in the last three months. And both have turned up exactly where you thought they should be. You assumed they'd gone missing because you didn't look closely enough at what was there. So again - the good news is that your home is not, in fact, a black hole for Kate Bush cds. The bad news is that you now owe the library a dollar in fines.
