rendez-vous la la!
Mar. 9th, 2004 06:42 amYesterday - hit the library. Have decided to read Proust. Or at least try. Also, got The Complete Tightwad Gazette. Many of the things in it just aren't worth my peace-of-mind & expending energy to do consistently (like bake bread, or do things like Rice-A-Roni or Mac & Cheese from scratch - anything that comes in a box and sits dry on a shelf is, IMO, "from scratch" enough for me). But there are some good ideas. It's obviously pre-Ebay in its extolling of yard sales; really great things don't get sold at yard sales quite as much as they used to. My other library prize of the week is Jan Svankmajer's Alice, which I've been wanting to see for years (ultra-weird czech animation).
Afterwards, Boy and I finally made it to Triplets of Belleville, which we both enjoyed. Two things, though: the art style of the main part of the film is very, very similar to 60s-70s American animation, anything from The Aristocats, 101 Dalmatians, and The Rescuers straight through to the Bakshi Hobbit. Most of the clips I've seen are of the 1920s music hall act shown at the beginning of the film, which has a very Fleischer Bros feel to it (think Betty Boop or earlier Popeye stuff). Also, the only character I really felt much connection to was the dog, Bruno. Still, it is very good, and something you should see if you like animation.
After that, grocery shopping. Oh, you know I only like to go at night. Dragged Boy around with me. It is always better to go with someone else - more fun, and it feels safer.
Now for tea and breakfast food.
