Happy happy birthday to the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] kore! Also happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] unquietmind's little moppet.

I've been reading over the last few weeks of my journal and am unhappy with my current state of ramblyness. I will try to do something about this.

Yesterday I read this wonderful graphic novel (sort of thin for a graphic novel, it's a couple hundred one-page drawings, but not panel-structured or anything) by Joanna Rubin Dranger called Miss Remarkable and Her Career. It's about a young woman in art/design school who feels both internal and external pressure to be The Absolute Best. Predictably, this pressure makes her miserable and she has a breakdown & has to figure some things out. Since this is basically my life story, I enjoyed the book very much. You can read reviews here and here.

Tonight, T. and I were going to go to a late showing of Amelie in a theater, but elected not to since we both own it on DVD, and because he was tired and I'd been nauseous and headachy all day. Excellent compromise was to watch it at his house. He gave me the copy of Starmore's Book of Fair Isle Knitting that he made and spiral-bound for me: I'll have to post a picture of it. He drew a cover for it. It looks really great, & I'm sooooo appreciative. Meanwhile, we snuggled on the sofa & drank ginger-peach tea, and he fell asleep 2/3 of the way through the movie, so I came home.

The momster is leaving tomorrow to go spend time at my grandfather's house near Cleveland for an undisclosed amount of time. She's taking my car, although the mirror is fixed now (to the tune of about $500 - expensive mistake - beware, owners of Saturns, and do not bang your side mirrors into garage walls).

Now to read until I sleep. Franken's Lies or Tomalin's excellent and much-feted biography of Pepys?
(I think I namecheck Pepys waaaaaaay too much on this blog.)
