Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] acedia!

Yesterday was horrible, more because of circumstance than anything bad that happened. I was up at 8 in the morning with plans to go to the storage compartment and to Meijer... groceries and, more importantly, bookshelves to be bought at the latter. But I can't do it alone, so I had to get my mother awake, which took, oh, houuuuuuuuuurs. Hours. I don't think we got out of here until almost 3PM. Skipped the storage compartment and went straight to Meijer, for the horrible mid-afternoon rush.

Americans don't move with any purpose. The way people wend aimlessly through grocery and discount stores bugs the heck out of me. It's like... know what you want and go to it and buy it, don't go to the store with no list and no ideas and pile your cart with soda and cookies just because they're on endcaps. That is descriptive of my frustration at being in that stupid, overcrowded, disorganized store for over two hours. Aside from groceries and bookshelves, I bought a TheDog notebook with a Pug puppy on it, the newest Real Simple (rather dull), and best of all a tiny clutch purse (maybe 4"x6") on clearance (around $3.50) that has the poster art from Disney's Alice in Wonderland printed on it. But the most important thing was the set of bookshelves. I bought the two that they had and I need to buy at least two more. Leaving all my bookshelves behind when I moved was a very foolish decision.

Then I just went home because I was tired... and I spent the evening struggling to stay awake, from 6PM to 11:30 PM, when I took a Unisom tab (which works as well as Ambien for me, I have discovered, and is cheaper and easier to get) and went to bed. I've been up since 8 today. I haven't done a lot, feel quite groggy, but I did get the doglet and momster out the door for doglet's annual health checkup and vaccinations. I suppose after this it'll be an hour or two at the storage compartment... in the light hail that's been coming down all morning. Hail!
Oh, lord. I have been passed-out-asleep on the sofa for several hours, after deciding that the TV should be off in favor of classical music. The intended relaxation worked a little bit better than expected.

Today was painfully productive. It seems that everyone in my family has health problems. My dog went to her annual checkup this morning, and it turns out she weighs almost twice what she should. Shelties are particularly known for becoming overweight via cuteness... you want to give them lots and lots of treats. So, seriously, my girl (who ought to weigh around 20 pounds and certainly not more than 25) is up to THIRTY-SEVEN POUNDS. Later in the evening my mom went to a medical appointment and found out that her blood pressure has shot up a ridiculous amount in the last month or so... this may have finally convinced her to quit smoking.

Inbetween the appointments I went to the storage compartment and packed up the van with my stuff. Still haven't found my featherbed, but did find a mattress pad with extra stuffing that will do the job in the interim. Found my Playstation, but not my DDR-Konamix cd. (Also missing - my balance ball thingie that I use to stretch my back, and my yoga kit with the strap and bricks. Grrr, I want exercise!) Found a pile of knitting and beading books and magazines, treated very badly by the movers. Ditto a bunch of my books just thrown into a box with hundreds of other things. Stayed until A) the van was pretty much full and B) I couldn't feel my fingers even though I was wearing warm gloves.

After that... I'd love to increase the suspense, but I can't because I want to finish this post. I went to Blick Art & Craft and got my Print Gocco kit, which is a late Xmas present (I was given the money for it on xmas day). I got a couple of books at Borders, which I'll write about in more detail later. I came home, cooked dinner, took a hot bath, and fell asleep on the sofa. Just woke up and am now going back to sleep. Ciao.
