verbminx: (pinkdeer)
argh.

So, I went to bed at like 9PM. I was in bed at 8PM feeling pathetic. Like, I'm not even 30 years old and I'm going to bed at 8PM like a senior citizen, or a pre-electricity throwback or something. I read research until 9. Then I had to give in and go to sleep...

only to be woken at 2AM by my cat, my dog, and my-mother-with-a-roll-of-packing-tape. The cat tries to get into the kitchen, upsetting the dog who is already in the kitchen. The dog barks. The mom tries to set up Trinity with her old desk, and part of this apparently involves patching something on the back wall of the desk with packing tape. Tape noises also make the dog bark. Tape noises would wake me up even if they didn't bother the dog. Anyway, I got up, grumbled, plotzed, went back to bed with an eyemask, and was completely unable to go back to sleep - so I gave up a little over an hour ago and have been watching The (fabulous) Goonies since.

I think of Heaven as a place mainly where you can Sleep as much as you want to, whenever you want to. Either that, or a place where you never need to Sleep at all and never feel Tired or Sick. I mean, if I'm going to waste Time sleeping, then I want to Enjoy it.
verbminx: (princess)
from Classical Fencing:

If fishermen tend to exaggerate, surely duelists will. However, consider the duel between Lagarde and Bazanez. After the latter received a rapier blow which bounced off his head, Bazanez is said to have received an unspecified number of thrusts which, according to the account, "entered" the body. Despite having lost a good deal of blood, he nevertheless managed to wrestle Lagarde to the ground, whereupon he proceeded to inflict some fourteen stab wounds with his dagger to an area extending from his opponent's neck to his navel. Lagarde meanwhile, entertained himself by biting off a portion of Bazanez's chin and, using the pommel of his weapon, ended the affair by fracturing Bazanez's skull. History concludes, saying that neither combatant managed to inflict any "serious" injury, and that both recovered from the ordeal. One could hardly be criticized for believing this story to be nothing more than a fiction.

(edited to correct for grammar. I didn't write this, and it was bugging me.)
