Jul. 27th, 2003 08:31 pmToday I've spent much as I did yesterday, lying around with an upset stomach while watching TV and doing research reading. A little less useless, though, because I did make dinner. Not as useful as I'd like it to sound, because that dinner preparation consisted of heating frozen pizza.
Interesting show on earlier: Who Killed Julius Caesar?, one of those Discovery Channel forensic reenactment/research shows. They followed it with a show on Tutankhamun which was much less interesting because it had been stretched out to two hours. When they do this, they usually don't have enough material for the full two hours, and end up repeating themselves a lot, overstressing certain points, having ridiculous melodramatic speeches just before commercial breaks, etc. But the Caesar program was lean enough at one hour to retain interest without constant excessive repetition.
No further info on the Leaker today. I think I'm going to go watch the local news channel and see if they have anything new to say.
Speaking of Caesar and the Leaker, that show stated that soon before his death, Caesar insulted several prominent senators by not rising to greet them when they came to tell him that he had been deified. According to at least one historian, he actually didn't rise because he felt an oncoming attack of diarrhea. The show postulated that he had a progressive form of epilepsy that could have caused things like loss of bodily functions, irrationally grandiose behavior, and so on, and wound up by suggesting that his murder was actually a consensual suicide. He knew about it but did nothing to stop it because of his failing health. Politically, it was better to allow himself to be murdered than to commit suicide by his own hand. Or so suggested the producers of the program.
Now back to my research, and waiting for Adult Swim!
