actually traumatized by shopping.
Mar. 26th, 2003 10:18 pmSo I just got home from dress shopping for this wedding I'm going to this weekend, because the last time I went to a wedding I was a smaller size, and anyway, that dress was damaged at the reception and then fell apart at the cleaner's. I could wear a dress of my mom's, but the one I'm thinking of isn't really age-appropriate, and my own dresses are pretty much too casual. So I had to look for another dress. The momster didn't have anything to wear either.
One major problem is that the wedding falls into that nebulous "not formal, but more formal than casual" category. It's probably better to be a little overdressed than a little underdressed, but I prefer to be "just right", because, well, I have psychological issues, OK? I tried on three things and bought the third thing I tried on. It's a black slip dress by Maggy London, and the straps are made of braided strands of tiny black beads. The dress itself is embroidered with flowers. The cost was... utterly disheartening, so before the wedding I am going to see if I can drum up something a bit cheaper to wear, and return this one. If not, then I have a really nice black dress. (It's similar to THIS in shape, but the embroidery is completely different. The embroidery on mine is all-over and is smaller clusters of fairly realistic flowers. Mine also cost more.)
I helped the momster find something as well - a Jones New York slipdress with Vneck in front and back, and jet-stone decor on the bodice by the neckline. Paired it with a sheer black jacket with scalloped hem, the hem trimmed with the same type of black rhinestones as the dress (though the jacket came from another line completely). Dress was on sale, so the set ended up costing about what my single dress had.
Now in the next two days I have to put together some jewelry to wear with these dresses.
Before this, we took
arwen_isobel to puppy class... I'm sure she'll have something to say about it. It was her first session and she did really well, although she is overwhelmed by the store and by the energy of the other puppy in her class. She snapped at Riley (other puppy, a Viszla) for getting all up in her face trying to play. & she made friends with a huge German Shepherd Dog who actually only understands German.
Yesterday was uneventful; I did a lot of work around the house. I think Monday was pretty similar. Washed a lot of dog bedding, threw away old magazines, etc. I've been cleaning out my closet and going through my dresser.
