packing a library is no fun.
Feb. 25th, 2003 01:25 amAs you may know, I have... several thousand books (conservative estimate; I'm never sure of exact numbers, but I know the room I'm in, an annex of an annex of an annex, has at least three hundred in it, and a few hundred more that are not mine). I've worked with intention of building a strong personal library, and it's probably what I spend the most money on. I do read comic novels often, but I also have dozens of art books, first edition hardcovers from authors I like, numerous signed books, etc. I could probably open a small bookstore just with the items on my own shelves... which are spread across three rooms in my house, plus the walls of a passageway. The only other things I really buy are CDs, clothes, and craft supplies.
Anyway, I packed three boxes of books tonight - well, two, with another ready to pack. I have to unpack the two I've done, because I don't think I did a very good job of packing them up. I found a few sites [1] [2] [3] with recommendations for how to pack books, and they're useful. But aaaaaaa, must I stand the books up in the box as if they were on a shelf? wouldn't they be better off on their sides? wrapping in white paper is certainly a good idea, and one I'm about to go indulge. i just see: three boxes down and 17+ to go, and that's not counting the book boxes I've already packed, of which I think there may be, um, around 12.
*sob*
(and this isn't even the headache item - I have a piano that is around 50 years old, in fantastic condition, and beautiful beautiful beautiful. i want to keep it that way!)
on the other hand, I'm totally enthralled by Reign the Conqueror. It's strange and beautiful. Here's a description I stole from gamus.com: In the ancient world of Macedonia, science and magic are one. And one man controls them both. With them, he can conquer all - all but his own ambition. REIGN: THE CONQUEROR puts a 21st Century sci-fi spin on the epic exploits of Alexander the Great. Build on a solid story filled with engaging characters, sexy intrigue, plot twists, backstabbing and outright epic battle sequences, REIGN is a visual feast of cutting edge animation.
