I've had a long day!

I made soap!

Well, I melted the melty things and put fragrance and glitter in and poured it into wee molds. I got two sets of molds today - leaves and chinese writing (happiness/love/energy/tranquility), and three colors of coconut soap (a reduced amount of sage green that came with the leaf molds, and a pound each of white and dark lavender). I got a citrus fragrance, and a lavender fragrance, and I got gold glitter. I do not think that making soap is much cheaper than buying soap - if at all - but at least the molds last a really long time. Tomorrow I want to go to the other craft store - the one I didn't hit today - because I know their soap stuff is better and a bit cheaper and they have a wider variety. I want strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate scents, and a few more molds and a few more soap bricks. I am making these for friends and relatives this xmas. (i probably should not have said this, since some of you will be GETTING these soaps. but i'm excited! nice project that isn't too difficult or messy and has lots of room for creativity. i've already mixed the scents in a single color, made 2-color soaps in the same scent, and 2 color-soaps with one scent in each color. I have a soap kit that I was given for xmas a few years ago and haven't used, and I'm going to go rescue its molds so that I can make citrus sun soaps and lavender moon soaps... :)

I remember when some friends of mine made soap for real; they used to always have big pans in their pantry, curing. Not this craft soap, where you melt stuff down, but real honest-to-jebus soap.

Oh. Today I went to the bead shop for toggle clasps. They did not have my usual style, so I am trying a different kind. I also went to the craft store, for some purse-making stuff (felt for decor) and for yarn for B's scarf (which I have also been working on tonight, to ILL effect, but I digress). That's where I ran into the soap stuff. La. If anyone knows any good soapmaking sites or suppliers, let me know. I don't want to make a major hobby out of it, but it is nice for gifts and as supplementary small products for MinxWorks.

Also: Wire in the Blood was good until the killer turned out to be... a stereotype I'm fucking sick of seeing in serial-killer-investigation dramas.
