Dec. 27th, 2001 06:01 pmI'm home -- had a wonderful time -- ended up not taking Little Boy with us, so this is the first time I've been online since Monday.
Xmas presents include Civ III (hehehe, now Brian doesn't have to send me his Civ II, and nobody will ever actually have to see me again), Arcanum, which is an RPG based on an industrialized fantasy world (basically, steampunk, if you know what that means), two Nick Bantock books (The Artful Dodger and The Gryphon), a Japanese novel called Masks by Fumiko Enchi, the Vertigo Tarot (art by Dave McKean), and a bunch of DVDs (both Utena DVDs, Sense and Sensibility, Ladyhawke, and Excalibur). Also some stocking stuffers! & a book from Xrys, Fruits, which is a book of Japanese street fashion, and the cookbook A Spoonful of Ginger, from Ragdoll.
The momster loved everything I gave her... I guess I finally got it right, after all that pondering and several failed attempts. Still haven't returned the necklace I bought her. If I can't get the $$ back I guess I will get a different necklace or bracelet for myself.
I didn't buy much while I was gone - some small stuff. Foreign candy, that sort of thing. Sanrio pencils. The funniest thing is a small Buddha statue which is, on its own, quite nice - a few inches tall, made of a translucent matte lavender-colored substance that looks kind of like alabaster or marble. However, it glows in the dark. I love glow in the dark religious items so I had to have it to go with my glow Mary and my glow rosary. I would have gotten the QuanYin too, but it was larger and more expensive, alas. Mom got a neat dragon statue from the same place which will eventually be kept in the living room.
The restaurant wasn't great. Just OK. Nice friendly French waitress. After we got back to our hotel we watched Legally Blonde, which was... hm. Entertaining, silly, implausible... but sweet. & then yesterday, it was soooooooo cold and we were exhausted. Had a bad lunch, meandered around, finally went home. The cats were pretty happy to see us. I went outside to check the mail, and it must have been in the 40s (well, that is pretty freezingly cold for us).
The momster accidentally broke one of my two glasses that say "Less Anger, More Smile" today. I am unhappy about this turn of events, but it's just a glass. I'm going to be hunting for them on ebay. *sigh*
Other than that, it's a slack day. Resting up. I have mostly unpacked, and I have a little bit of a headache. Might watch a movie later.
