Wednesday night I drove my mother to her class and then came home to get ready for my mat-cutting session at a more liesurely rate. Took a piece of matboard that was already cut down, because I really only needed to cut two mats, and there was enough on that piece... I thought. (ooh, foreshadowing!)
So I get out to school, haul out my piece of matboard, and notice what I would have noticed at home if I had actually taken it out of the garbage bag I'd been keeping it in... um, oops, it was FILTHY. I have no idea how it got that way, but it looked like someone had spilled either mustard or cadmium yellow gouache on it. As I gazed at it in something resembling despair, my mother walked into the room... oooh, she'd gotten out of class early. I did not have time to go home and pick up more matboard. I found a useable section for one of my pieces and cut the main lines. Meanwhile, she started calling craft stores.
We ended up plodding down to a craft store and buying a hand-held home foam-and-mat-board cutter. Kind of a pain to use, but at $20, a good investment. After that, had dinner at the Olive Garden... their new Chicken Marsala recipe is yummy. Berry Crostada is a good dessert but not as good as zabaione/zabaglione.
Came home and got to work. The piece I'd matted ended up being too large for the portfolio, so I had to spend the time to finish a piece that was overdue anyway. It took six hours but I was really happy with it. I had to type out and print production sheets and a title page and so on, finish the matting and secure the matted pieces to the pages, etc etc. I finished at 9:10 AM, still needing to cut one more mat.
Went to school, very caffeinated, and blathered my way through writing class. Blew at least 4 people off running out to the car to get my portfolio between classes and running back into the art room.
More later... I'm off to go see Serendipity.
