Jul. 31st, 2001

yes, I just woke up. i didn't write in here yesterday because i was too tired... i didn't sleep a lot the night before last. I figured the only way to stay awake was to get out of the house, so that's what I did, after watching a Japanese action-ish caper flick called Adrenaline Drive. It wasn't bad, but somewhat predictable... I wonder what I would have thought of it if it had been in English?

After that I went out to dinner (which I ended up mostly taking home) and spent a few hours being a bookstore troll. Came home with the new issue of Vogue Knitting, which has a few nice sweaters I'd like to make, as well as a new calendar for school and the Bhagavad-Gita (a cheap copy). The Momster got this interesting book that helps you figure out what styles will look good on you. & when I got home, around 11PM, I went to sleep pretty much immediately.

The Momster is off at an appointment to try to get the VA benefits she's supposed to be getting as my stepfather's widow. It appears that he may have been discharged from the military incorrectly all those years ago... he was in the Coast Guard and got in a car accident in the late 70s and was paralyzed from the armpits down (though his arms mostly worked). If he was given a medical retirement discharge everything is fine, but if he was given a straight honorable discharge there are problems. It's a little too complicated for me to go into here. But anyway, she got up at 7AM (via my alarm clock) to go to an appointment to see what's up with all of this. & I couldn't sleep through it, so now I'm up too. Can't hurt, I suppose. *yawn*
Looong day.

We bought furniture.
The livingroom furniture is (was) off-white, and purchased in 1988. So you can imagine, we are due for an update. We picked out a nice soft cotton duck sofa in a pretty shade called "eggplant", and a chaise that matches it (it's really more like a club chair with an attached ottoman). Comes with pillows, etc. Being delivered a week from Saturday.

Then went to Best Buy and got a few cds and dvds. I convinced my mom to try AfroCelt Sound System - she likes Peter Gabriel and most stuff she's heard on RealWorld, so I think she'll dig them. I got Moby, U2, Beastie Boys, and Ladytron, as well as the Blur collection dvd ("Coffee and TV" is one of my most favorite videos ever) and Camelot on dvd, as my old videotape copy is all screwed up and it's been on my mind.
& then I went to the store next door (discount clothing hell chain) and found a pair of Docs - ladys oxfords with black soles, a little dressier than normal docs, on clearance for $30. At first I wasn't going to get them, but the docs that S gave me a few months ago are chunkier and wing-tip style, and these new ones are much less fussy. Plus the B-cat hasn't had the chance to vomit on them yet, and if he does, the absence of pinked leather trim and little eyelet cutouts lessens the mess greatly.

Now the momster feels sick, so I am going to spend the evening nursing her. I'm pretty tired myself. la la la.
