I had a very productive evening.
A little after my last entry (which was friends-only, ooooh) my mom started getting really upset because she had a headache. This would have been around 8PM... I remember that I was flipping channels on the TV and decided to turn it off. She started crying, so I got her a hot washcloth and heating pad and tea and other niceties, and after a while, maybe an hour, she decided to get up and mail the payments of various bills.
Okaaaay. So I left where I was in the livingroom (ostensibly cleaning, more realistically glued to some Powerpuff reruns) and went to the postoffice with her. Somewhere around that time we decided it would be a really keen idea for us to get ice cream, so then we toddled over to the icecream store (there are two within five blocks of each other, both close to us - we chose Baskin-Robbins, the closer) and got Jamocha Almond Fudge cones! I haven't had icecream in months. Yum. It'll be months before I have another, too.
Went back into the livingroom while I was finished and continued to watch squiggly lines dance around on the TV (more PPG, then some Daria, then some XFiles). This time I rocked out. I went through two surgical dust-filtration masks, and had the air purifier running in there as well (I'm horribly allergic to dust). At various periods my cat and my mother both came in to keep me company.
I wiped some things down so that they'd look better, sorted and packed several boxes of books, found some clothes that I packed to take on a trip three years ago still in the box they'd been in (it was a long trip and I drove; the clothes were mostly gothygoth stockings and bodysuits and waist cinchers and so on). Found all my books on Charles II (do you think it's a coincidence that we're getting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?) and packed away most of my Arthuriana with the exception of about ten great books. Found my copies of Acme Novelty Library (the best comic ever, yay Chris Ware for your depressive genius). Put away some art supplies, threw away a huge stack of magazines, found the receipt for a shirt I want to return (now I just have to find the tag). Shuffled some books around so that they are ready to be put away (by topic) or read. I seriously forgot that I had a copy of Breton's Manifestos of Surrealism and of The Elements of Typographic Style. I have some great books, enough to keep me busy reading if I don't buy anything through the rest of the year (though I doubt that is likely to happen, heh heh heh). I also sorted through some things I've been putting aside to send to people (Ragdoll, Autumnthought, J-girl, my dad, my goddaughter who just turned 1 on Sunday, etc) and got one package ready. More packages tomorrow.
After about four and a half hours of that, I gave up and hopped in the shower to wash off all the dust. I feel accomplished. I have an eye appointment in the morning and hopefully won't miss it (though to be honest, I'm not optimistic about making it on time, either). In the next few days I'll take care of the rest of the packages, and hopefully make a lot more progress over the next few weeks. I know it doesn't sound all that interesting to onlookers, but this is a major accomplishment, & I'm super-thrilled.
