yeah, so you know how Fat Man's nice monitor hasn't been working? SOMEONE decided to clean off my desktop (the physical one, not the virtual) while I was away, moving all my things and dusting a lot. and that same SOMEONE managed to unplug the power cord from the outlet on the back of the monitor without noticing! and that same someone managed to knock it to the floor when I asked her, a week ago, if she was sure that both cords were connected to the back of the monitor!
Grrrrr. She also didn't plug the modem back into the surge protector when she ripped Little Boy out of here in a fit of fury a few days back (the kind where she spills through in a rage while I'm asleep, doesn't watch where she's walking, trips over my slippers, and screams that I've "created a deathtrap"). I am Highly Aggravated.
Did I mention earlier that I slept for something like 14 hours last night? I went to bed a bit after 4AM and woke up at 7PM. Then I opened some silly horoscope thing I get in the mail every day, and it said "Sleep is the most productive thing you can do today." I'm hungry but I want to sleep soon. I could make myself an egg sandwich, or wait another hour until McDonald's opens (shame! the shame!) and let them make me an egg mcmuffin, but the healthiest thing to do would be to try to get to sleep.

I'm embarrassed to be on pins & needles re the Felicity repremiere tonight. Heh.

I played a long game of Bejeweled: The Obsession (hitherto referred to as "BTO", soon to be available in limited edition board-sets, blah blah blah...) and made it to almost 6K without trying. Mechanically clickclickettyclicking away. It's almost zen. (well, if "evil brainsuck" and "zen" can be used interchangably... you think?)

I read more of TMM tonight (even though I really want to finish Georgiana & get into Deus lo Volt!), and found some web resources for studying it. Mann suggested that it be read twice through before a reader tries to make sense of it. It's 700pp long and I'm not that enthralled with it, so I doubt that's going to happen. But I'm on about p130 (of Woods) and noticing motifs already. Symbolism of Krokowski's office lighting, etc. I wish that just once, Our Hero could be called Hans (simply Hans!) and not Hans Castorp. I don't care for Clavdia; think that her "slavic openness" these study guides mention is a racial stereotype, but then, each of the characters in this book is meant to be just such a thing, various types of people and national characters found around Europe prior to WW1.

I have to admit I'm going a little mad with boredom. I have a pretty serious GI infection and I have to work out a treatment for it (I've had it before, and it requires a nastily restricted diet, so I have to make a list and do the shopping and some cooking for it). At the same time, the air up north did me some good. Until I took my big spill, Autumn even said that I was looking a lot healthier than I had in a while. I had more energy & was getting used to walking a few miles a day. However, since I came home it's been hot and I haven't had definite opportunities for activity or exercise. So I've been feeling a little better than usual, but I'm bored. I desperately need to find more in-house activity, and I desperately need to get out more, be more social, even if it's just something like joining a few support groups (there is a fibromyalgia support group - I don't know if it takes CFIDS people, though - and I'd also like to find some kind of knitting group). I'm stir-crazy. There is always the option of sorting through my (too much) stuff, which I'm sure I'll take, but I need to have more out-of-the-house activities that are not being driven to a bookstore by my mother, where I sit for a few hours and then am driven home.

I tried to do this survey that I got from the delectable Sparklegirl. It was about favorite music, least favorite music, etc. But my tastes are not defined enough for that. I have at least 4 or 5 "favorite bands" and a ton of solo artists I adore. I can say that Cocteau Twins and The Cure are probably my top favorites, but I have so many others. So it didn't work out, and if you want to see the survey or (heaven forfend) answer it, you should just go look at her journal page and pick it up for yourself.

aha!

so this time i found a survey i think i can finish! this is from Rachel...

1. Any Nicknames? Sure. Verbminx. Hee hee.

2. Age? Twenty-four years, eleven months, and two weeks. (oh god, i'm going to be 25 in two weeks? oh god!!)

3. Zodiac Sign? Taurus. Textbook. With interesting addition of Gemini moon and rising to make my life just that much more confusing.

4. Birthday? 2 May 1976

5. Which state and/or city do you live in? Florida

5. Hair? Red (special effects), over dark honey blonde.

6. Eyes? Light blue that can look blueblue, cornflower blue, violet-blue, grey, or turquoise.

7. What are you wearing right now? A heather-grey tanktop/camisole with a shelf bra and a heather-grey pair of loungey pants with a drawstring waist. Not purchased to match, but they do.

8. Do you live with your parents? With my widowed mother and her two mad cats, as well as my singular wonderful cat.

9. What's your favorite colour? Bloooo.

10. Favorite TV Show? oooo. Felicity, Buffy, and The X-Files are rarely missed, and I'm also partial to Daria and the more shoujo parts of Toonami.

11. Favorite foods? Right. Well, you see, I'm not allowed to eat anymore, it's bad for my digestion.

12. Favourite drink? Midori sour (alcoholic), water (non-alcoholic). Also very partial to tea.

13. What are some of your favourite films? Sense and Sensibility, The Piano, The English Patient, Pretty In Pink, The Hunger, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Nightmare Before Xmas, Sliding Doors, umm... I have dozens... umm...

14. Favourite month? erm... March?

15. Favourite article of clothing? At the moment? A good tank top. I like all my clothes as long as they fit. It's hard to discriminate. I'm mighty bummed that my ribbed and shaped off-the-shoulder cotton sweater that I bought at jcrew in October is developing a shoulder hole, let me tell you. I'm fond of my longsleeved orange Powerpuff Girls shirt, and my new Curious George tank.

16. Your favourite place to eat? Ran-Getsu. Godlike Japanese restaurant in Orlando.

17. Any favourite web sites? Livejournal, Salon, Plastic, Free Will Astrology, Bejeweled on the MSN Gaming Zone, my friend's ezboard, Feed, anywhere with a lot of interesting things to read...

18. Favourite magazines? Real Simple, Juxtapoz, Somerset Studios, HOW, the New Yorker...

19. Own any pets? One lovely cat and two other cats, also lovely, who are convinced they own me.

20. Height? 5'7" and a wee bit extra

21. What are you listening to right now? computer hum

22. What's your favorite type of music? 80s alternative (college, indie, new wave, punk, goth, industrial, etc etc)

23. What's your dream car? something chauffeured. (did i spell that wrong? probably. i don't really enjoy driving.) otherwise something classic and sexy.

24. What is the last book you read? The last book I finished was Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, though I am currently reading (as per Reading Room mandate) The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann. Also trying to read a book of Japanese short stories called The Mother of Dreams (depictions of women in postwar Japanese literature) and am trying to finish the book on Georgiana Spencer. and reading some boring CFIDS books I've been reading for months, trying to eke out an enticing diet.

25. Do you look like anyone famous? A ton of people. Usually compared to Julianne Moore (very close, esp lipsticky end of the affair shots of her) or Gillian Anderson or occasionally Nicole Kidman (those nice, sweet people I used to work with. Love them. Love them lots.) Also Drew Barrymore, Liv Tyler, Faye Dunaway (when I was blonde), Vanessa Redgrave, blah blah blabiddy blah.

23. Do you have a job? i'm a freelance writer and a student, but i'm not doing much of either right now.

24. Are you tired/sleepy? i'm always tired, but i'm not particularly sleepy right now, after marathon sleep orgy ending less than 12 hours ago.

25. How would you describe yourself to be? Go to my profile page. I'm very nice, until I'm not. I have a smallness inside me that a lot of people don't notice, a very tender little thing, a polite shyness & desire to be helpful. I am not a spitfire or a racecar or a frieght train. I like company but I also like to spend time alone.

26. Weight? Hmm. I think it's around 140. I wear a sz 10 or thereabouts.

27. What do you really hate? Mean people. The current US government. When people push their religious beliefs on others. Being lonely. Being bored. Feeling redundant.

28. What does your room look like? I'm not in my room. The room I'm in (which is "my room" for now) is a large one with three doors in it to other rooms, as well as a large closet and the sliding glass doors to our "patio" room, which is really indoors and part of the house. There are a ton of bookshelves in this room and the carpet is a variegated blue. I am sleeping on a futon whose platform is about 6" off the floor, and it is heaped with pillows, as well as a fiberfill comforter, a featherbed, and a down comforter, all covered with a blue sheet. i'm sleeping on that, under a white cotton woven blanket. there's a stereo. my back is turned to all of this as i sit at the computer, which is against a wall. some of the other half of the room, which is otherwise empty, is occupied with metal clothes racks belonging to me and my mother, with some clothes on each.

my real room is, strangely, pretty similar. add a tv and vcr to the stereo. make the futon a bit higher off the ground, as it is the sofa-style where half of it flips up to form the back. add a ton of books and cds and videotapes and toys and folded clothing.

29. Do you have any pictures/posters on your walls? in here, i just put up the Flaunt calendar for 2001, over some weird religious poster my mom had on the door. we're also thinking of getting a gigantic poster of The Great Wave (Hokusai?) to put over the bed. in my own room, i have a ton. a lot of small anime posters (mostly Sailor Moon and X), some cure and cocteau twins and david bowie posters, etc.
Oooooh,I watched Felicity... oooooh. Oh, that evil bitch who didn't stay dead. Oooooh. Badness is going to happen there. Why is half the trouble on that show caused by rich girls with no sense of how much they're screwing up other ppl's lives?

Well, I got up in the afternoon... around 4:30PM, which means I slept for around six and a half hours. I watched some of the usual Toonami stuff (Big O - does anyone know anything about this show? - and Tenchi) & then spent some time tutoring my mom in math. I knitted until my show came on.

My Utena wallscroll came today. It's really pretty, shows the three main characters snuggled up in pajamas. Anthy has her hair down. It's manga style.

I don't like anime style much - in almost anything I like. I prefer the softer manga style art (that's actually how I cut down on my obsessive Sailor Moon collecting... I started collecting only things relating to the manga).

I also don't like the Utena: Adolescence Rush style. The movie is coming out on DVD etc this fall, and there is a fanart/cosplay contest that the Utena Network has some information on. I might try drawing some stuff for it.

Right before I went to sleep this morning I got stuck on another Zone game, Alchemy. It's harder than Bejeweled. It doesn't have the same calming click-click-click effect, because it requires more thought and strategy. But it is interesting and I have been trying to play it. So far I've only cleared one board to gold and gotten about 2/3 of the way through the next board.

That's me today. I'm probably going to spend the rest of the night cleaning, knitting, and reading more of The Magic Mountain... I'm determined to read at least 25pp tonight, hopefully more.
