This is Hilderbee's fault.

The New Yorker or Real Simple.

6a. FAVORITE SMELLS?

Lavender, citrusy things, spice, indefinable smells reminiscent of certain places.

32. FAVORITE SPORT TO WATCH?

In person, just about anything, though I'm most likely to follow a basketball, baseball, or soccer game (and I played basketball and soccer a lot when I was younger, tho I was never very good).

49. ARE YOU THE PERSON THAT YOU WANT TO BE?

No. I'm making thumbnail sketches though.

50. WHAT WOULD YOU RATHER BE DOING RIGHT NOW?

Lying in bed reading.
I never met a survey I could resist. Someone should really tie my hands behind my back when I see one of those things.

I am feeling like someone punched me in the gut, so I have settled in to read for the day with a heating pad on my lower back. Does this EVER get better? I'm drinking my "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" edition Pineapple-Ginger Green Tea, and banning TV except for Sailor Moon at 4 and Tenchi at 6. The house is quiet, and so am I.

A little bit ago I dropped a note to the friend I fell out with a couple months back. Not a reconciliation attempt (can't reconcile with a fair-weather friend except by saying "I give you permission to walk on me and make me feel crappy at will", which would be unhealthy for me - that sort of thing would have to come from her in the form of an apology, and I'm certainly not holding my breath), but a request that she mail me some things I lent her last year. It's not a "Give me back my toys, I don't like you anymore"; I had been meaning to ask her already when the unpleasantness occurred. Anyway, I had been wondering with a sort of clinical detachment how I would feel about writing this note... and it was no big deal. Polite and to the point. *sigh*

Last time I hung out with Autumn I was all worried whether she would like me or not, because of the bad experiences I'd had with several close online friends when hanging out IRL; now she's concerned with whether I'm going to like her (and her boy and such) when I'm staying with her. But I'm a very easy guest as long as I have a place to sleep and keep my stuff and food that I can eat (IE not a lot of pasta or bread; plenty of protein; no fish). So I don't think she needs to worry. It's so cute, though. (Ragdoll is worrying too, for other reasons, but we've been in enough contact for me to know that problems are unlikely.)

Me and the tea and the book are now toddling off to cozyland. We have no cookies, we have no chocolate. Wish us luck.
The mom came home early, bearing food from Boston Market, which turned out to be strangely... cold, when it arrived. I didn't eat all of it, but so far I haven't had food poisoning yet. Knock wood. There was something I'd been planning to say here before she got home, but I was sidetracked and now I can't remember what it was.

After eating, I remembered to take my vitamins. This is a major victory, as I often forget... I have remembered for the past four nights, now, I think. I also drank a cup of cocoa spice tea (which has ginger in it) to help with digestion, and so far it all seems to be working. Not feeling as crampy as I was earlier, either.

Spent the rest of the evening knitting. I knitted a gauge swatch and then pulled it out; then I cast on a full needle of stitches and started a scarf, but I dropped a few stitches near the beginning of the fourth row, and decided to pull everything out and start over. That's where I quit. It's going well, actually (it would be better if I hadn't pulled out everything I did, but what I mean is that I am getting a feel for the mechanics of the process).

My ambition for tomorrow is to get a few inches into my scarf. When I'm up north, I'm going to be showing Autumn the basics, which will also be really good practice (at least as long as I learn to purl and therefore do stockinette stitch before I go... right now all I know is garter stitch).

Ho-hum. Not much to write home about, I guess. I have to remember that even little accomplishments are something, that I can still be proud of myself for success when it involves small things and not things that involve my name being in the paper and/or a program and/or the acknowledgements of a book.

A couple of LJ-notes: I'm really happy that the feministas community is finally taking off and people are posting to it and discussing things... intelligently, no less. I know I need to post a "get organized" project to that community, but I have to gather resources before I do that, and I just haven't had the time and inclination at the same time. & a friends-only post is coming soon, too.
