I did laundry and chatted last night, then sat down to read The Elegant Universe around 4:30AM, and fell asleep a little after five. I don't know whether I completely lack the intellectual wherewithal to read an entry-level book on superstring- and M-theory, or whether it's that I'm ill, or just that I was zoned last night. But I read about two pages and found my mind wandering as I was reading. That's not a good sign.

Woke up at 9:30, and I've spent the time since then getting breakfast and mom-wrangling (she has to get up and go to school to finish a project, and she doesn't particularly want to go, and she's been awake as long as I have, but she's been determinedly refusing to get up). I don't feel so well today (surprise!) and I wonder how long I will last on four hours of sleep. My ears are itching and popping and I have a headache. I'd like to do things later today. I hope I can stay awake that long.
aaaah! I've been up all day! All day! That's like 25 hours minus four for sleep. Ptooie!

I ended up getting dressed and going out, earlier. I hadn't been out in a week, it was a nice day (breezy, high 70s or low 80s), and I knew I'd fall asleep at some bizarre hour if I stayed home. So. I pulled my dressier sandals out of the closet, put on a dark stretch denim skirt and a black cotton v-neck tee, and hit the town.

I managed to accomplish some minor frivolous errands. Ran to one of the three major craft stores in town looking for wooden knitting needles and a yarn any nicer (or more-appropriate for a beginner) than Lion Brand Wool-Ease, and struck out in both respects, but did pick up a miniature sock-monkey kit. The tiny monkey wears a nightcap and holds an even smaller teddybear... soooooo cute! Hit the bookstore, put some books on hold to look at some other time, and got the new Bust (seein' as how I don't have a sub anymore). I had really wanted to go to the healthfood store and one or two other places, but I was just too tired to do all the walking, which is why I went to the bookstore... I gathered up a pile of books and snuggled in a chair for 90 minutes. After I left to pick up my mom, I stopped at the comic shop and looked for Clowes' Ghost World, which they didn't have, so I picked up the compliation of the first 4 issues of Optic Nerve and some comics (Transmet, Zero Girl, the first ish of the new Love and Rockets).

Retrieved mom from school. Hit second of three craft stores, struck out again. Did get a few odd things like glitter sticks for a gluegun and a big black cardboard craft box... nothing exciting, all pretty mundane.

After that, back to the bookstore for more of the same. It was so crowded that I couldn't get to the books I'd had held earlier because that would have required a long wait. I just looked at different books on the same theme, and lots of magazines. Got the paper arts mag I usually pick up. Read travel guides for a long time and even then they were blurring together... there are few that don't suck in some respect or other.

Stopped on the way home for a sandwich.

Here I am. Tired. Sick cats - D threw up hairballs while we were gone, and B threw up food and had his usual accident thing happen, so quite a cornucopia of smells awaited our return. The accidents have all been cleaned up and now I want nothing more than to go to sleep.
