Jan. 14th, 2001

My alarm woke me up at 8 (when I could and should have gotten up) but I slept in til 11, half-asleep and half-awake. Headache seems to have receded, though it doesn't feel entirely gone.

I've eaten a clementine and am about to eat couscous lentil curry soup. Yum!

I think I forgot to mention a major tragedy that occurred the other day... I tossed my Discgear cd holder into the front seat of the car, and it bounced out. The clasp came open and four cds ended up on the sidewalk. Miles Davis' Kind of Blue now has a deep dented chip, Sinead O' Connor's i do not want what i haven't got has a deep scratch, REM's Monster has a couple of small chips (landed face-up), and Wolfsheim's Spectators has a scratch which may be repairable. These are some of my favorite cds (that's WHY they were in the case), and I'm really bummed about it. I find it ironic that the clasp on my good, expensive, wonderful holder that is very kind to cds which are in it because it has polishing-cloth sleeves came open, when my other holder, the cheaper plastic-sleeved thing from Hot Topic with the glittery retro kittycat on it and a velcro flap closure, would have survived the two-foot tumble without a problem. *sigh*

I am going to try to be productive today. Not sure how, I just am. Hopefully my headache will stay as minor as it is now.
hahahaha... not only am I out 4 cds (and I did register with Discgear and write them a complaint letter in which I make no demands but point out that their product is nowhere near as rugged as they suggest), but my mother's D-cat, the Feline Supervillain, got hold of my headphones (which were nice padded things, though not of audiophile quality or anything), and bit or clawed or somehow ripped the main wire right in half.

*sob*

Yeah, I am going to go do laundry a bit later and hopefully go to Target, where I'm returning a few things and can hopefully get some headphones. I have the cute ones that came with my blue Hello Kitty discman, but they're really itchy, so I'll try to get something more comfortable.
Well, I went and did laundry. Dried 3 loads, small, jeans and jean skirts and a sweater and pajamas and my duvet cover with kitties on it. Nothing too big. We were there about an hour.

After that, stopped in at the drugstore and bought more of the meds I just finished. Due to the fact that I am now on my mom's prescription drug plan, the meds were free... they cost less than the co-pay amount or something. This was pretty cool.

Spread out mom's new featherbed and sat on it and watched a few minutes of Notting Hill, which she's still in there watching. The featherbed is comfortable.

I'm reading Nicholas Christopher's A Trip to the Stars, which I've been waiting for since it came out in hardcover and which came out in paperback with a reading group guide inside and everything. He wrote a book called Veronica that came out in 1996, this amazing surreal mystery novel about a magician's daughter and a guy who falls for her and a blind lunar cartographer and a sorcerer (who derives his powers from the number 8) and "The Star" tarot card and ley lines and mysterious doors and Tibet and the Royal Society and, perhaps, if I remember correctly, John Dee. It's one of my favorites and I am thrilled to finally have the follow-up in my hot little hands. I'm on something like page 50, and so far it is not so weird as Veronica, but has a creeping strangeness around the edges. December 16th, Jelly Roll Morton, stars and constellations, milk and blood commingled - these are all recurring items of note thus far.

My ear hurts. I think that, now that I am done with my antibiotics, the infection may be coming back. I'm not sleepy today but am quite drained of energy. It's been worse, it's been better, but if I don't take it easy I'll be in pain tomorrow.
