Have spent the day mostly in bed - my joints are all sore and not cooperative. I will describe the petty annoyances of my day later.

I decided to steal this survey from Tomato Nation, a far more interesting journalish thing than mine, definitely worth checking out if you haven't already. Some of the UberMedia people have irritated me in the past, with their egos and attitude, but Sars isn't one of them. (Note: I only know them through their websites and postings, so this is a very superficial impression.)

Quiz #1: My Favorite Things

Boy singer: Urrrggggh. Maybe Morrissey or Chet Baker. I don't know. I listen mostly to bands, not to that many solo artists. I like Elvis Costello, Michael Stipe, and David Gahan too.

Girl singer: Liz Fraser, formerly of Cocteau Twins.

Band: Oh, too difficult! Probably REM or Cocteau Twins, but I think The Cure comes up a lot when I actually discuss it. I listen to music mostly in the car, so what is good for driving may not be my overall favorite.

Song that brings back memories of high school: The Smiths, "There Is A Light" - one group of friends. For the other group, there are a bunch - lots of early 90s hits. "Hey Jealousy", "Runaway Train", "Frank Mills" (the Lemonheads version), etc.

Song/band that reminds you of your first sexual experience: Lenny Kravitz, "Are You Gonna Go My Way". Yuck. I remember wanting to get up and turn it off.

Author: You must be joking. Haruki Murakami, Jeanette Winterson, Michael Chabon, Philip Pullman, some others who are in my profile... tons. Anyone good.

Last book read: I don't remember, really, but I probably posted about it in here. Lately I cannot finish anything. I'm currently reading a bunch of things, but trying to focus on Leonard Shlain's The Alphabet Versus The Goddess and Baumgardner and Richards' ManifestA. Both are nonfiction women's studies books. I am semi-bedridden and my bed is surrounded by books.

Kind of cuisine: Chinese. Any asian, really, so long as I don't have to eat seafood. I don't like sushi but I love sukiyaki. etc.

Place on earth: Geographically... hmmm. I don't really have one. I love the Rotunda and Garden Court area at the Cleveland Museum of Art, though. Overall, the CMA is probably my favorite place in the world to go. But I haven't been very many places. I've enjoyed most of the cities I have visited.

Thing to do on a vacation: Sleep.

Leisure activity: In order? Reading (online or books/magazines), watching movies or tv, shopping. Bleh.

Work activity: Writing

Best live concert ever witnessed: I don't know. I can't differentiate, really. Maybe NIN in 94.

Stupidest thing done while drunk: Heh. Many, despite not getting drunk often. Specialty is either picking fights with boyfriends who aren't treating me well, or being a leeeeetle more affectionate than I should. Probably the overall stupidest thing I've ever done when drunk, the overarcing theme here, is continuing to drink. I very rarely do anymore.

Soup: Mrs Grass's Kluski Noodle Soup, blue box, with an egg dropped in during cooking.

Artist: Sandro Botticelli, Jan VanEyck, Michael Parkes, Yoshitaka Amano, Remedios Varo

Sport to watch on TV: Ice dancing.

Breakfast: Either an omelette with cheese, tomato, onion, mushroom, and greenpeppers, and lyonnaise potatos, or a bowl of Cheerios and an English Muffin with Blackberry Sage tea jam. To drink, a cup of pulpy orange juice not from concentrate and either a coffee so creamy as to be cafe au lait, or blackberry sage or cinnamon plum tea with honey.

Favorite getting-ready music: Sinead O'Connor, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got

Most nostalgic situation: ??

Heroine: I don't know if I have one anymore.

Popular misconception about yourself: I was the center of a rumor epidemic some time ago, and most of it was lies lies lies.

Quiz #2: About Me

Living arrangement: A large house in FL with 3 cats (1 is mine) and my neurotic mother. Many LD phone charges.

Faorite TV show: Felicity, Buffy, X-files, Simpsons in syndication, a few others.

What's on your mousepad? This computer has a touchpad, which looks like brushed aluminum. The Beast has a Wacom Graphire Tablet in Blueberry, if it ever gets properly installed. But the mousepad before that was a black and white photo of a kitten in a hammock. I have also had, in my life, a boring blue mousepad with a "closeup photo" of water droplets, an X-Files mousepad, and a 101 Dalmatians mousepad that I got for xmas from a relative.

Favorite smells: Indefinable scents that remind me of certain people and places, now long gone. None is describable.

Worst feeling in the world: humiliation? rejection? aren't they the same thing?

Best feeling in the world: losing myself dancing.

Favorite soundtrack: hm. The English Patient, Natural Born Killers, probably a few others...

What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning? Going back to sleep.

Do you get motion sickness? If I read in the car. I avoid boats, generally. Trains and planes are OK.

Roller coasters - scary or exciting? Yes.

Pen or pencil? For writing, either a Unigel Grip medium point black gel ink pen, or a Schaeffer calligraphy fountain pen. For drawing, pencil, definitely.

How many rings before you answer? I screen, so usually two to four rings.

Favorite food: Clementines, Macintosh apples, lyonnaise potatos...

Do you get along with your parents? Much of the time, but both are neurotic and hard to live with in different ways. I rarely live with my father, and my mother drives me crazy because she micromanages, controls, and is too critical.

Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate chocolate chocolate.

Favorite ice-cream flavor: At the moment, I am liking two Ben and Jerry's flavors: Pulp Addiction (Chocolate Orange swirled with chocolate cream) and Jerry's Jubilee (Cherry Garcia swirled with some kind of chocolate brownie flavor). Leaning towards the latter. There is a great chocolate raspberry flavor from Godiva, too.

Croutons or bacon bits? Croutons. Excepting the occasional McDonald's Egg McMuffin I don't eat pork.

Do you like to drive? Yes, but better when there isn't much traffic, and it's a nice night so I can have the sunroof open.

Do you sleep with stuffed animals? Sometimes, but rarely in an embrace. I have one big velvet frog that I sometimes use as a spare pillow.

Storms - cool or scary? Cool... depending on the intensity. Then, scary.

What type was your first car? 1984 Olds Delta 88. White with red striping details, 2 doors, and a burgundy-red velvety interior. Nearly universally dubbed "the pimp car".

If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be? I don't think I would want to, as I have met some people I admired, and most were very nice, but I would be devastated if I met someone & looked forward to it and they were horrible.

Favorite alcoholic drink: Midori sour, or Mike's Hard Lemonade.

What is your zodiac sign? Taurus - with Gemini moon and rising.

Who's your favorite poet? I have a few. Probably Rilke the most. I like Eliot's work but don't care for him as a person, and I like Merwin for modern people.

Do you eat the stems of broccoli? Sure.

If you could have any job you wanted, what would it be? Be careful what you wish for. I don't know. I would have to try the job for a while first. Maybe a writer, maybe an editor... I don't know. Anything, being successful would be part of the wish.

If you could dye your hair, what color would it be? I DO dye my hair. It's flaming, screaming red.

Have you ever been in love? Yeah, whatever. Never at the same time as the person I was dating.

What is on the walls in your room? Several large music posters and smaller anime posters, some art cards and prints, a metal Betty Boop sign, some ornaments hanging from pins, a shelf someone made for me with a few trinkets on it, a bulletin board, hanging pegs for jewelry, a big black sheet over a large window that faces the street, a few other things.

Is the glass half full or half empty? There is no glass.

Favorite Snapple? Snapple is nasty. The closest thing I drink to it is Arizona Mandarin Orange Iced Green Tea.

Favorite movie? One favorite? that's it? Sense and Sensibility and The Big Lebowski.

Are you a lefty, a righty, or ambidextrous? Righty.

Do you type with your fingers on the right keys? Not really really. More or less. I type fast, even though I have never taken a typing class.

What's under your bed? Let me think... I'm not sure whether or not I still have a few shoeboxes under there, but last time I checked it was: a few long flat boxes of things like posters and junior high yearbooks and old journals, a few books and a binder, some magazines, some old jewelry boxes, and a coffin-shaped box full of cd-care supplies.

What's your favorite number? Two. I think I was corrupted at a young age by a skit on Sesame Street that I liked.

What is your dream automobile? I don't really have one! something comfortable and safe that runs well. Maybe a restored car from the 50s or 60s.

well, that is me and my achy limbs tonight. more actual events (if you can call them that) later.

i've been awake all day on and off, but am just chilling in bed. soon i am going to read. maybe watch American Psycho later.

mom is being much nicer to me; she went out to pick up some things and is bringing back food later. I got most of the major bills (phone, electric, cable) done last night, and have mostly things like credit cards to do tonight.

last night i had a political discussion with autumnthought... not really an argument, but a discussion. she is a little more conservative in certain ways than you would expect, & i told her that i think she takes liberalism for granted because of how prevalent it has been in her environment (mostly urban, some suburbs of large cities). it was very hard to explain my environment, the south and the bible belt and extreme outer suburbia, but i think she understood a little better once i did. a sticker on your car like the darwin fish or "pro-woman, pro-family, pro-choice" is very likely to get your car vandalized, for one; the public school dress code is very strict & against unnatural haircolours or "unusual" dress (IE punx not welcome); this county is mostly Republican; there was a women's clinic with a house across the street which Operation Rescue bought; etc. I used to play "every day is like sunday" a lot: "this is the coastal town that they forgot to drown"... but that was when i was a great deal more morose than i am now. (imagine!)

i'm going to read for a while and paint for a while. i'm thrilled that my legs don't hurt as much today... nothing does, i am starting to feel a little bit better. i suppose since this is pretty much my third day in bed, i should do some housework too.
