simplicity! look in their costume section. the ones marked "Martha McCain" (there is a civil war one plus two for its undergarments, and a medieval one, tho they are no longer making the hat pattern that went with it) are the nicest. The Andrea Schewe ones are nice too, but a little more "costumy". some of the patterns under eveningwear in the "Style" line are very nice, too.
Vogue also has "Vintage Vogue", but a lot of them are harder dresses. some of the ones from the 1950s don't look too bad, but some of the suits are really tailored and that can be really hard.
i don't like the ones McCall's makes. they're pale knockoffs of the better, easier-to-follow Simplicity ones. not even sure what Butterick and Burda HAVE.
anyway, FWIW, i usually only buy simplicity and vogue. but i used to make doll clothes by hand now and then (i used to do barbie makeovers when i was younger). so those are the only ones i've used... i'm just teaching myself how to use a machine.
