The show, probably worried about the potential loss in viewers due to Duchovny's departure, seemed to really kick in this year, and got back to something basic it had lost for a few seasons. I found myself really digging it, up to and including the finale (even though it centered around all the alien bullshit, which is my least favorite part of the whole deal). After the very first season, where Scully's role was mainly to undress and get menaced by the weekly beast, they've swung wide to compensate, writing her into a full saint (perhaps literally, depending on what stock you put in this episode). Sexy Skirt-Suited Pistol-Packing Virgin-Mother, MD. Mulder may not be worthy of her, but who could be?
