That is the Standard Way. I have found that women I found unbearably sexy often were not the most desirable as practical partners. I think one can be a Bombshell and keep some of your soul, but it requires a balancing act that most women would find difficult. I have only known one woman who had something like "Bombshell" status and seemed like a halfway decent person, and even then, I will admit she was no rocket scientist.
One thing the book probably doesn't mention is that every "Bombshell" I have known has had head problems. Admittedly, I don't have a statistically significant sample (I don't date much and don't really enjoy it) but it seems to be a pattern.
But still, the book is right in that the intersection of the sets of "Interesting, quality people" and "sexy people" is smaller than would be soley attributable to chance.
