i've been queened!
So, being broke, I decided to eschew the They Might Be Giants show tonight (*wistful sigh*) to watch the Oscars with the momster. Weirdly... while I read McSweeney's, since issue 2 or 3 on paper and since way before that on the web, I'm not sure I dig the Eggersization of TMBG ("a better idea is not to be had in all the 13 states"). I just got my TMQ #6(?) with the TMBG soundtrack cd in back, but I haven't listened to the cds yet. Chris Ware's cartoon in it is great. Vintage tragic irony... now in children's sizes!
So. Yes. The red carpet show is on. Joan Rivers, upon whom I regularly wish death and destruction, is officiating officiously. I have no predictions. I'll be rooting for the three-hour AD&D campaign to rack up as many awards as possible. For supporting actor, particularly, since not only is McKellen a wiz, he is also an openly gay man who was given away with hamburgers all across the United States. Please don't give anything else to the boozy shaving-challenged boor known as Russell Crowe.
I went and picked up my new glasses today. They are... odd. But good. Smaller than my last pair... almost like emo girl retro nerd specs, except... lightweight dark bronze metal (titanium? aluminium?). I'll post pics for friends. I also looked for an issue of ReadyMade (a new crafts mag with a sort of urban/hipster bent), but was unable to find it at the two bookstores I checked (which, hey, saved me my last three dollars). I guess the first issue is sold out or something, and a new one will come soon?
note: why yes, the new glasses and the new mcsweeney's do have something to do with the brokeness. although... my mom, also now broke, bought the glasses, and i charged the mcsweeney's cos it's collectable and, i think, a decent investment.

I think I have 3 TMBG albums... Flood, Apollo 18, and John Henry. I keep meaning to get more... but I just haven't. Broader musical horizons than I had when I bought those means that my music-buying dollar is stretched kinda thin.
Last time I saw them live was almost 10 years ago!
I dig that song "Man, It's So Loud In Here", and the last show was really fun, so I wanted to see them again. There's a show on Tuesday night a few hours away, but I probably won't go because I don't know anyone else who wants to, and then there's the $$ thing again.
