(no subject)

I am hurtin', but resisted the urge to go back to bed. I watched Red Dwarf and was completely confused by the goings-on... new ship (the Starbug)? Rimmer gone and replaced by a girl named Kris? Clearly I need to find a site with plot summaries. I know it's *all* old episodes, I just don't know how this stuff happened in the show's chronology.

(Edited to add: um, I went to RedDwarf.com and read the episode summaries. I'm up to speed now. The fact that there have only been around 50 episodes makes it easier to keep up.)

I just updated my wishlist (full of stunning gift ideas!) and also listed some things for sale in the Amazon Marketplace... copies of a couple of books I read and do not plan to reread. Almost all of my books are kept in great condition, like new. Because I'm psychotically fanatical about it, you see. I don't like any creases on the spine or little dents in the pages from where people grabbed them really hard while turning them. I'm reeeeeeally wary of lending books to people but I usually give in sooner or later. Anyway, I hope people buy the books I listed, because it would be nice to make some $ on things that are just sitting around taking up space.

Off to go paint now. Wish me luck. & keep your fingers crossed for The Momster, who has a science final this morning....

Christine Kochanski rules. The actual reason is that when they were filming Season 7 there was a scheduling conflict and it was either Chris Barrie or Craig Charles but not both and the producers decided Lister was more important than Arnold J. for the time being. So Rimmer was written out. His 'goodbye' episode is awesome and then following one where he leaves a goodbye message for them ala the "It's a Small World After All" ride is just terrifying. ;)

the thing is, i've actually *seen* many of the later seasons with Kris in them... when seeing earlier episodes, I was like, "Where's the girl?" I've seen most of the last season, but the episodes I've been watching in the middle of the night recently are all earlier. Tonight's ep was "Nanarchy" (the one where they hunt down Kryten's nanobots to attempt to restore Lister's arm). and since I only catch 1-2 each week, it's hard to keep track of any continuity. I've seen "Legion", i've seen the one with the waxwork androids representing historical figures who have run amock (I think it's "Meltdown"), I've seen "The Last Day", where Kryten is supposed to be decommissioned and replaced by Hudzen, a handful of others. But otherwise, most of the ones I've seen are from series 8.

Ah. Actually Kochanski shows up as a concept/character in some of the earlier episodes but played by a totally different actress and as a very different character. I think there are one or two flashback episodes in one of the first three seasons. She's a little welsh girl if I remember correctly. Quite a difference from Chloe Annette (sp?)!

She doesn't become a regular character until Season 7 and *that* Kochanski is actually from an alternate universe where *she* was the only Red Dwarf survivor and Lister (her boyfriend) was a hologram. It's really weird but it works well in terms of storyline.

Did I ever tell you that I was groped by Craig Charles? ;)

yes, i got all that from the online episode guide and the eps that have been on the last few nights.

and yes, you did tell me about the groping. i mean really... given a choice between a season without lister and a season without rimmer... it's really a nobrainer. i must have just missed the episode with all the mini-rimmers... it was prolly on sometime last week. oh well!

hehehe i just bought your holiday loot this morning hehehe...

Yay for episode guides. I think I've seen them all but not 100% sure. I have all of season 1-5 on tape. Might be missing bits of 6, saw all of 7 (in Philly) but might not have 'em on tape and then have all of Season 8. And yeah, it was a no brainer. And not that i'm giving anything away but Arnold J. comes back with a bullet in Season 8 anyway. I'm very excited about the film too.

I'm just annoyed that M. got the specials (the A to Zed, Smeg-Ups, Smeg-offs and Can't Smeg, Won't Smeg) on tape when the Philly PBS station ran them and I never got to see them. Our PBS station hasn't run them or if they did, I missed it.

I still have to do shopping for peoples. I haven't yet. Yikes!

The mini-Rimmers, etc. are nearly as scary as the Gentlemen, let me tell you! :-D
